Ed told a really cool story about a 12-year-old girl who, on the eve of Vs coming out, begged her parents to let her go to the record store at midnight to buy the album. They refused, of course. But the next morning at breakfast, her dad handed her the CD. That woman lost her father last year and she is there at the show tonight celebrating her birthday.
Nice story but note to parents: it's O.K. to let your kid stay up late for something special, even more so when it's a 12-year-old. I have heard so many stories about kids in Boston whose parents woke them up to watch the Red Sox win the World Series in 1986 (only to be traumatized when the Mets came back and won the game), and I always think, "What kind of parent makes their kid go to bed when something like this is happening?" They hadn't won since 1918, and it was a Saturday night! Let the kid stay up!
I was a freshman in college when Vs. came out. We went to the record store the next town over for the midnight sale, and they actually ran out of copies. They had to go get inventory from another store to accommodate everyone in line. I also remember that there were like 800 people in line, 798 for Pearl Jam and one couple who came for Rush's Counterparts.
This also reminds me of when Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II came out in September 1991. I was a junior in high school and we were allowed to leave the building for lunch only on Thursdays. I got a note from my parents asking to let me take my outside lunch day on Tuesday so I could go get the album. I ended up picking up copies for several friends, returning from the record store with a bag with eight CDs and six cassettes after lunch. I was greeted like such a hero.
Sadly, it's Netflix series that she stays up for, thus far!

This is the first set list of the tour that feels unpredictable. I don't know how it's sounding, but it's looking great on paper.
Beautiful, like love.

One of my five favorite Pearl Jam tracks. I played this at my pets' grave on May 20 last year, the third anniversary of the passing of the longer-lived of the two, and then they played it second in the set the next night in Inglewood. I cried.
And "Got to Give" is my favorite song from Dark Matter. I was one of the (hail hail the) lucky ones who saw it in Vancouver a year ago tonight. (As were you, Spunkie.)
Nope I couldn't stay for night 2 probably sports or school 4 pipsqueak

Damn that first part is so sad... I'm glad this song came to fruition then
