***Requesting PRESENT TENSE for my oldest sister for Raleigh on Mothers Day, May 11th***
It's been a long time coming, but my oldest sister Deirdre will finally get to see Pearl Jam live for the first time in Raleigh May 11th, followed by the May 13th show. Growing up with parents that divorced when I was 5 (she was 11 at the time), I looked up to her frequently, particularly when it came to music. When mom was unable to, Deirdre would drive me to karate classes, soccer practice, guitar lessons, etc. And while doing so in the family's early 1990s Honda Accord, she'd have me listen to Nirvana, The Pixies, Radiohead, Sonic Young, Lemondheads, U2, REM, and of course Pearl Jam during the drives.
30 + years pass and though she has kept up with music, she ended up in moving from Florida to DC living the family life and raising two awesome kids and not being able to be the concert junky that I am. No regrets for either us. Though we were supposed to see PJ during the Binaural tour in 2000, due to an unfortunate circumstance, neither of us were able to make it. It's been awesome seeing my favorite band as many times as I have in as many places as I have. I feel lucky to have had those memories for sure. Long story short, the cosmos finally work in both our favors, and I'll be able to travel up to Raleigh from Austin, and she'll be meeting me down from DC to catch both PJ sets. Two songs of PJ that stand out particularly for my sister are Elderly Woman (gave her comfort after our grandfather died) and Present Tense (she bought me the No Code cd for Xmas in 1996 and told me that was her favorite off the album, and I've been hooked ever since). Deirdre deserves all the credit for getting me into this incredible band at a formative period of my life and I'm wanting to place this positive energy out there in the Pearl Jam universe. Would love the band dedicate Present Tense to a kickass sister for her first PJ show and for raising two amazing kids.
