USA starts World War III

Here's a thread to discuss insidious manners and extremes Americans will go to to preserve their prosperity as they run out of fresh water and rare earth minerals.

Examples:

1. Disrespect for universally accepted international boundaries: "I think Greenland's going to be something that maybe is in our future. I think it's important (for) international security."

" It cannot go on the way it is. It's not going to go on the way it is." - USA President

    1. You didn't vote, bboy.
    2. I hope your outlook improves, sincerely, maybe take a walk in nature today?
    3. World War III requires atomic bombs?
    4. When I don't renew membership and pay to post here, I will miss you Brian.

Oh no!  I hope you change your mind and stick around.  A few months ago, I was certain I was done here, but changed my mind and as of about a week ago and renewed here.   I won't shame you or belittle you for wanting to go, but I will miss you if you do!
    Now, back to your thread:
    1.  I voted optimistically with "Remains to be seen".  Very optimistically!
    2.  Yes, sorry.  Reading Heather Cox Richardson today left me feeling a bit hopeless.  I will take that walk in nature you recommended!
    3.  I always picture WWIII being an all out nuclear holocaust.  I suppose there might be other scenarios, but in any case, it would be beyond horrible.
    4.  See above!

My gut response is "no" but then I remember that every accusation is a confession and the Party sure like to accuse their domestic enemies of starting WWIII a lot. So who knows?

I’m pretty pessimistic on this Admin and 40% of American people, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. A WW3 started by America would be deeply unpopular with Americans themselves.

But I understand why portions of the world, especially Canada would be worried.

Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Catturd, End Wokeness, Joe Rogan, Fox, OAN, etc. tell the American people what's popular and what's not.

In fairness, those quotes are far from the most incendiary that Lord Jackass (or COOTWH as HttM likes to call the president) has given us since re-taking office.
There are many reasons WWIII could be started by the US.
Also, I do think WWIII will involve nukes

I guess I don't know where I land on this. I don't know too much about war and I appreciate all your responses.

I mean I only learned today that the UK and France are the only two nuclear powers in Europe. And that is where our new Prime Minister went to visit immediately after taking office.

Europe is terrible when it comes to launching shit.  I actually think that's just fine because launching shit is a huge waste of money and resources, so maybe they will just stop doing it!

Zero chance they start it. If WWIII happens, and I doubt it will, but IF it does, it won't be started by the USA. Maybe you can argue they didn't do enough to prevent it, but that isn't the same.

I guess it also deoends on how you define "starts" it.
If USA decides to stop payment on a loan and the other country (China) claims we violated the agreement and decides to take military action, who "started" the war? I'd still say China.
Is it the first one to take military action? Well, we, and just about every other country, have already been taking military action for years. Just not against anyone big enough to take par tin WWIII. I'm not sure you'll be able to blame 1 country for WWIII, if it happens.

it makes complete sense for the pm to visit the seat of the commonwealth, no?
are there still ties to France with Quebec to explain that part of the trip?

What about if the US annexes another country, and WWIII starts because the world retaliates against the annexation and declares wars against the US? You know, how WWII started. That would definitely be the USA starting WWIII just like Germany started WWII.

If there is a WWIII, I don't think there will be a single country to blame. The US isn't just going to annex another country, we're not going to take control of Greenland or Canada. It just isn't going to happen.
Russia has already invaded another country and no one has stepped in with direct military action to stop them, mostly because we all realize it isn't worth WWIII.
If there is a WWIII, I believe it will be a chain of events that won't pin down to just 1 thing. Maybe 1 country does something wrong, but then other countries react in a way to to escalate it. Like what's going on with Russia and Ukraine. We know what Russia is doing is wrong, but we're not getting directly involved because we don't want to start WWIII. Russia also chose a country that he knows we won't directly defend for that reason.

I think of Ukraine as the new Czechoslovakia. Who will be the new Poland I wonder?
Putin is very very interested in the US annexing Greenland - it's not hard to figure out why.
