His guitar plays well, but man is the neck sticky...

  • Since everyone else has been making fun of strat I will tell you the difference.

The neck is bound and extra ultra nice on the standard. Also it has chrome covers on the humbuckers, a full pickguard, better paintjob (kinda assuming there) and possibly better wood selection.

So whats so 'special' about the sg special?

The Standard has all the bells and whistles, the Special is a no-frills version. So it depends on your budget and what kind of features you want.

Gibson's "Special" guitars are like public schools' "Special" education...

  • sg standard is a far superior guitar to the sg special,...the sg special is a guitar that's ok, if you are on a budget,....it all depends if it's worth it to you to spend the extra cash,....for me,...it would be

i woudlnt say its an "ok" guitar.

for 900 bucks, or 859 or whatever.... thts a damn good guitar. and mine plays...like nothing youve ever heard before:) i gaurantee you when you are rocking with the band or on stage..not one person in the house will be able to tell that its an sg special. except for other guitarists..and thats just by the look....

    That's a good point...

there are good Standards and bad Standards

    good Specials, bad Specials...

find a good one of either and you have a good guitar. Only other gear heads will know the different models, and even then they might not really know...

a lot of guitar people don't worry about the different models and only know the general model...

I play a Townshend SG... I have had several people comment and say, I have a guitar like that... just like Angus play... my first reaction is to correct them and point out that Angus has an SG with Humbuckers, and a vibrato tail piece... but I always just say... right on, thanks for coming to the show... or something along those lines.

Find the guitar that feels best to you. That's my thought.

SGs are great in any form.
