on the other hand, it could be the corrective to human caused extinctions.....

seems like the extinction rates are increasing.

I generally don't like the way humans are so often hell-bent to try and make nature be submissive to our whims.  On the other hand, I wouldn't mind the idea of bringing back the most aggressive carnivorous dinosaurs like the Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Allosaurus, and then release them in massive numbers all across the planet.   The point would be to do this with the hope that the evolutionary process on earth would repeat itself and lead to a whole new crop of human species.  And very importantly:  Leave a lot of evidence and strong warnings about how badly we, the first batch of humans, eventually fucked things up all to hell, and wise advice on how doing it right could make earth a paradise.

interesting article. But it doesn't sound like they are making "wooly" mice, or will be making wooly mammoths. They are just going to take their closest relative, and make them very hairy to look like a wooly mammoth. They can sit in a zoo and look like a wooly mammoth, but they will be genetically different in many ways, just physically look like them. So I'm not sure what the point is really.
