going back to guitar school?

im at the point where I really need some direction to where to take my playing... I play in a band, and want to improve but also improve my skills so I can enjoy playing and writing by myself for a longer period... Id say id be at an intermediete playing level. Has anyone ever gone back to get more lessons or schooling to improve their skills? has it been beneficial? or would be better off just going twice as hard at the scales and penatonics?
