Sounds like they had Chief Wiggum on the case at first.  Nothing to see here - apart from two dead bodies and a dead dog!

    Bake 'em away, toys.

Something I read last night suggested the bodies showed signs of decomposition, they'd been deceased for a while. How there was still a dog alive in the house is really strange (Maybe an automatic feeder / water station?)
Yeah, I heard on the news this morning it had been 2 weeks since anyone heard from them and they showed signs of mummification.

yeah two dogs alive, one dead....strange

I heard that they found the wife in the bathroom with pills strewn all over. I wondered if maybe she found Gene or saw him collapse and went to get his nitro pills or something thinking he had a heart attack. Hopefully not a murder suicide.

That was my next thought. Gene was 95 (I actually had no idea he was that old, I figured he was mid 80s). So not surprising he would pass naturally. Maybe the wife didn't handle it well and took the pills. And one dog died of starvation, the others drank from the toilet or something and managed to survive.
Thats my theory at this point.

I love a ton of his movies. I think Superman will always be closest to my heart though. I do, however, clearly remember watching Enemy of the State and specifically thinking that it was so much better than I expected, mainly because of Gene Hackman. It's not my favourite of his, but it totally reminded me of how awesome he was.

so now I'm hearing that the wife died first...so Gene must have panicked and his heart stopped if that is the case

Fits my speculation that someone walked in on someone dead or dying, then stressed themselves into the same situation. Then the dog ate the pills at some point after days without food.

I believe the dog was in the crate. No food/water for several days

    What a shame.

    • Cause of death: Academy Award-winning actor Gene Hackman died of natural causes, chief medical examiner Dr. Heather Jarrell said today at a news conference. His wife, Betsy Arakawa, 65, died of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome and likely passed away before her husband, according to investigators.

    • What we learned today: It is possible that Hackman was “not aware” that his wife had died several days earlier, Jarrell said. The 95-year-old actor “showed evidence of advanced Alzheimer’s disease,” she said. The couple’s deceased dog was found in a crate and could’ve died of starvation, officials said.

Horrible situation poor dog dying like that! There’s a lot to be said about having someone to look after you living alone and old is sad.
