I received an advance copy of a book I was interviewed for called Lollapalooza: the Uncensored Story of Alternative Rock's Wildest Festival. Rich Bienstock and Tom Beaujour went above and beyond in catching a wide swath of stories, perspective and behind-the-scenes dirt.
It features an entire chapter on the wild Seattle Sideshow Marvels that I was involved with. But the book covers Lollapalooza 1991 through 1997 so there's a lot of rock here, and a whole lot of Northwest rock including Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Hole, Bikini Kill and a foreword by Kim Thayil. It is coming out April 1st but is on sale now.
Lollapalooza is the definitive, no-holds-barred oral history of the 1990s alt-rock festival, told by the musicians, roadies, and industry insiders who lived it. Featuring an intro from Kim Thayil! Available March 25th.
Richard Bienstock and Tom Beaujour, in conversation with Daniel Kohn, discuss Lollapalooza: The Uncensored Story of Alternative Rock's Wildest Festival
LOLLAPALOOZA: The Uncensored Story of Alternative Rock’s Wildest Festival hits shelves today. It’s an incredible read on Lolla’s touring years featuring original interviews with Eddie Vedder, Tom Morello, Billy Corgan, and the MVP of the book, Ministry’s Al Jourgensen.
Last week at the Lollaplaooza book launch event in Seattle, Kim discussed Soundgarden’s experience in 1992 and 1996, as well as headlining Chicago in 2010, and their journey to Lollaplooza Chile, Brazil, and Argentina in 2014. Kim is pictured with authors Richard Bienstock and Tom Beaujour, and on stage along with moderator Mike Squires. Lollapalooza, an oral history of the festival, is available now. Read more about the book from @rollingstone and see options to order at the link in bio.
