Mad Season

Hey folks, a couple exciting things in Mad Season world: Mike McCready and I have been working on the 30th anniversary re-release of the "Above" album, which will be happening in March. And somewhat in the same time frame is the launch of my new music TV series, "Singing Earth," on the VEVO network. Mike McCready, Duff McKagan, and many others appear in various upcoming episodes. Today, the first episode of the series is out and you can watch it on your Internet TV on the VEVO network or on Youtube at SingingEarthVEVO. Episode 1 - "Woven Songs Of The Amazon" was filmed in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest, where I and director Tad Fettig @fettigtad along with musical translator Dr. Lisette Garcia @lisettegarcia333 visited the singing Shipibo Shamans, where I did field recordings of the shaman's healing songs known as "Icaros." The shamans then asked me to bring in some of my musical friends to add their music to the Icaros and the results are truly exceptional. Joining us from studios around the world are Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron @themattcameron Joshua Tree legend David Catching @itookthisphoto New York percussionist Elizabeth Pupo-Walker @elizabethpupowalker and Cuban singer-songwriter Hector Tellz Jr. @hectortellezjr A companion album will be released in a few weeks that has 20 of these Icaro collaborations, and 100% of the proceeds goes directly to the shamans and their families. Will this be just a repress?? Im guessing a similar route that label took for AIC's dirt en jar of flies in recent years. Just e really nice vinyl remaster. Cause I would be very very surprised when this will be another boxset with stuff that wasnt on the previous one.

I'm not sure yet. Would be pretty cool for a 30th Anniversary Box Set release with unreleased material.

Didn't they only play like, four live shows to support the album? Probably not much unreleased stuff to be had aside from maybe some studio outtakes.

"Live at the Moore" is definitely worth having and it is available on CD, DVD, and LP. I actually used to have a copy on VHS years ago too.

There is a bootleg of one of the other shows floating around out there. It was called "Season of Myst" or something like that. I heard it several years ago but I recall it being a rather rough performance. Lots of forgotten lines and missed cues.

The Live at the Moore show, I think it was filmed on film, not video tape. There's a bootleg on the internet that was taken TV and it's in HDTV and looks really great. Maybe the DVD will get reissued onto Bluray so we can enjoy it in HD. That would be amazing

Mad Season Live @ The Moore on Blu-ray? Ah, yes please!

And maybe a Mad Season Above Dolby Atmos Blu-ray release, as well.

The Season of Myst boot was from Crocodile Cafe. Not awesome quality, IIRC. It has been many years since I heard it. Aside from "Live at the Moore" and the reunion/tribute with the orchestra, it is the only live Mad Season I've come across.

The last one was pretty comprehensive for a band only had about a half dozen shows, and was only together briefly to complete this recording project. Especially with two of the original members deceased and even the second singer also deceased.

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

Above is easily one of my top albums of all time. I was 13 when it came out and I went to Wherehouse Music in Colma, CA on the day it was released to buy it. My mom was like "are you sure you want that?" 😂 I still have the VHS of Live at the Moore that hasn't been played since the 90s when I last had a VCR.

I never got to see the original Mad Season. I went Mike's Sonic Evolution Seattle Symphony show in 2015 when he and Brett reunited Mad Season with Duff and Chris Cornell, and Kim Virant. One of the best shows of my life. The vinyl is worth getting as well.
