Recent Loss of My Child and How Release Has Helped

I'm writing this in hopes of finding a way to contact the band, and more specifically Ed.  I’ll start this by saying that my reasoning for asking the question has nothing to do with being a fan boy or some crazed fan. I’m a 47 year-old guy who bought 10 the day it came out and has loved the band ever since and been a ten club member for years.

I recently suffered a tragedy in which I lost my 17-year-old daughter unexpectedly, and to this point without any reasonable explanation.  This happened Sept 1, 2024 or two months shy of her 18th birthday. To say that my daughter was my world would be an understatement and I’ve struggled mightily since the day she passed. My ex-wife and I separated when she was young and I was blessed to be able to spend a significant amount of time with her as a young child one on one.  As a result of the amount of time we were able to spend together, I have described her as my "person" and my best friend.

One thing that has helped, and that I’ve always turned to in times of struggle, has been music. Sometimes it’s Pearl Jam other times it’s different artists or bands but music has always helped me get through the toughest times of my life.  I have always found “Release” to be a beautiful song with lyrics that are very meaningful in many different ways. While going through my current situation, I’ve had multiple lines from this song, really hit home and provide me with a sense of peace and comfort. “I wait up in the dark for you to speak to me.”

I’m a realist and understand that the possibilities of getting a note to the band, specifically Ed, to let him know how much they have helped me are slim I’d still like to give it a try. I had hoped to have an opportunity to see them when they come to Pittsburgh later this year been here him sing those words in person and perhaps the stars will align and I’ll get the opportunity to do so.

Sending you unfettered love & strength. It's not easy out there as it is, let alone experiencing the unimaginable. You always have friends to talk to on here, and I hope they play Release for you.
It won't get any easier, but it will get better. Little by little. Be strong, be well, and be sound.
