hey i need help with the chords of corduroy.

the fact is, if the chord is followed by a number, what does that mean? is it the fret?

for example, dunno, G5, E5. those were not the chords of corduroy, but its just an example.

thanks.

you could do a google search for corduroy tablature, or tab, and that might be easier to read since it shows what fret to finger for each string that you play.

Well, chord names followed by numbers indicate a fundamental chord with an accented or added note. In a scale, there are 7 notes. A regular (major or minor) chord has three notes, the first (the root note of the chord) the third and the fifth. If a chord "X" is referred to as X1 or X8, it's just the root note and it's octaves (X, higher X, lower X, etc.). X3 is X and the note two higher than X. X5 is X and the note four higher than X. X5 is standard notation for a power barre chord. X2, Xsus4, X6, X7, and X9 (actually, X9 is the same as X2) are the full chord plus an accent note.

G5 is the notes G and D, and looks like this:
    (scale is 1-G. 2-A, 3-B, 4-C, 5-D, 6-E, 7-F#)
    e
    B
    G
    D--(5)--
    A---5---
    E---3---

E5 is the notes E and B, and looks like this:
    (scale is 1-E, 2-F#, 3-G#, 4-A, 5-B, 6-C#, 7-D#)

    e
    B
    G
    D--(2)--
    A---2---
    E---0---

The notes in parenthasis are optional.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
