Kendrick Lamar is playing at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for night one on Tuesday. Downtown Atlanta is gonna be a shit show. I’m booking a Fur Bus there and back to the burbs. If you know you know!
Got my buddies party bus service doing that for us back to Buford both nights. Going to be a train wreck down there.
Does he have room for a few more in Peachtree Corners? It’s on the way!
    Probably. Shoot me a DM.

I'm not attending any of the ATL nights. I'm just relaying some interesting local news here:

    Atlanta Dream

The Dream. It’s all in the name. The players are certainly living their dreams, having achieved professional basketball stardom. But they’re also helping young girls in the Atlanta area chase theirs—through STEM. The team’s “Power Her Dreams” clinics, sponsored by Microsoft, teach girls valuable STEM skills using basketball as an exciting entry point.

Basketball and STEM are surprisingly connected. Take dribbling, for example, one of the most fundamental skills in the game. Mastering it requires finesse… and physics. At the camps, the girls learn all about the force and energy behind a ball’s bounce.

Dream star Rhyne Howard recently joined a clinic to give the girls an engineering lesson using something unexpected: their basketball shoes. “Everyone here shout out your favorite basketball shoe,” a coach prompts the girls. She barely finishes the question before their answers ring out.

    “Air Force Ones!”

    “Lebron’s shoes!”

“The green Kobes—like the ones I’m wearing!”

“Well,” the coach continues, “these shoes were specifically designed to give you traction on the floor—that’s engineering.”

Later, Rhyne sits on the floor with the girls, pencils and paper in hand, demonstrating how to draw plays. She sketches out a court, marks down players’ positions, and shows what angles to take to cut across defenders and drive to the basket. A coach explains that creating plays is similar to creating “if/then” statements, which are the foundations of algorithms. And that learning code skills can help them up their game.

Because at these camps, the girls aren’t just playing games—they’re making them. Arcade-style basketball games, to be exact. Using Microsoft Make:Code, the girls learn basic coding skills to build a free-throw shooting game. Microsoft and the Dream hope to create a curiosity in STEM that opens the door to more opportunities in the future. On and off the court.

Looks like most of the hotels near the venue have all raised their prices again........my room at the American Hotel by Hilton went from $220/night to $325/night.  Luckily I booked @ $220.

Wow! I am glad I booked a hotel when I did as well. I am staying at the Holiday Inn Express near the venue. The room is a different prices over the nights I am there but ranges from $126 - $189. Probably not as nice as the Hilton, though.

Thats a good deal for a room near the venue.

The combination of a PJ arena show and a Kendrick Lamar stadium show is driving up the demand.

I know. It is a good deal and a 10 minute walk to the venue.

First time in ATL and I just booked the Sonder on the south end of Midtown. $147/night all in. Seems like a cross between a hotel and an airbnb where you check in on your own with an app. Fingers crossed it works! Close to midtown and worst-case scenario it's a 30-min walk back after the show

I live a block from there, great restaurant across the street, Poor Calvin's.  Easy walk; I'll be walking both nights.

Can anyone help me with my exit strategy from State Farm Arena please? We’ll have a 12
year old with us this trip so looking for the safest way to get out of there and back up to The Battery. Best to take the train with the crowd right away and take that as far as possible then uber from the station? Or maybe hang around one of the downtown hotels or restaurants until things quiet down and uber straight from there? Appreciate any help thanks!
  • Marta (the train) gets packed and can take awhile. I took it once after a show and said “never again”.  Marta does not add any additional trains during events so you’re stuck with this massive demand on the reduced capacity night schedule (or it used to be this way).I haven’t actually Ride Shared post show from the arena but the latter plan you described sounds good.

Which day? April 29 also has Kendrick Lamar playing next door at Mercedes-Benz Stadium which means the night time crowd is going to be 3-4x more. I saw the Stones at the stadium in June and parked in a garage on the other size of Centennial park.  By the time I got to the car (15-20 minutes) traffic had cleared up where driving wasn't a problem up to Sandy Springs.
