Over Ear wireless headphone recommendations

Hey folks, what’s everyone’s favourite over the ear wireless headphone for music?  Primary uses would be PJ bootlegs from nugs.net & Apple Music (Dolby atmos when available). I’ve been looking at the Sony xm5, and would like to hear any feedback.  Thanks!

  • Not the most comfortable, but I like my airpods max a ton. Im in the apple ecosystem, so it’s just easy. I find myself using them paired with apple tv for movies more than I expected, keeps it quiet in the house. And atmos sounds terrific! I’d recommend them. But I am sure they aren’t the best out there.

I have the Sony WH100XM5 and have also owned Bose QuiteComfort (old gen).  I think they sound great, but the fit great as well.  I have a larger head so finding a pair of over the ear phones has been a dilemma for most my life ... I was able to wear these for multiple hours on a long flight without having pressure or heat issues.

The app is a little wonky, but I haven't spend much time with it.  It does give you an equalizer (which apple music doesn't).  I don't wear them much around the house and have used it for one 3 week trip so I don't have long-term feedback, but I'm happy with them.

I was happy with the Bose as well, but the Sony fit better.  The carry case on the Sony is bigger as they don't breakdown like the Bose.  I would say the Sony case is about 40% bigger than the Bose that takes up backpack space, so take that into consideration if you travel with them.

I would wait until they are on sale for $300.  If you can, go to a store where you can try on and compare with Bose for fit.  I think anyone would be happy with the tech from either company.

I love my Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless headphones. Best sounding headphones I've had. 60+ hours of playback - I have to charge my ipod upwards of 6 times before I need to charge the headphones. I haven't timed the charge time for the headphones but I think it's about an hour and no more than two. You can download the Momentum 4 app on your device to change settings and EQ settings and monitor the remaining charge on your headphones.

Oh, and then there's the actions you can do on the right ear piece. Tap, double-tap, swipe up and down for volume, etc. Plus, take the headphones off and the music stops playing. Put them on, music starts auto-playing again.

Comes with a cable in case you're out and the head phone battery runs out of juice. You go wired until you can charge them up again.

Beyerdynamic 770 is my favorite pair I've ever owned based on sound and comfort.  Only drawback for some people is they have a cord which cannot be removed.  It's for studio purposes but PJ bootlegs sound great on them.

Thanks, I did end up buying the Sony xm5.  They do sound great except for some Dolby atmos mixes, including Dark Matter. I stream from iPhone / Apple Music and it just sounds kinda muted. Have you found this?

I think Dark Matter is why I switched to Spotify because they have an equalizer built into the app.  I got it balanced there but I remember it being very bass heavy which cause it to sound muted (even in the car).  I think the Sony have an equalizer built into the Sony App for the headphone that you can experiment with if you use Apple Music
