The latest edition of the Mike McCready Show hits Sydney HARD!

What an awesome show! It was my 10 year old’s first ever gig and it’s set a pretty high standard for anything he sees after this. The band were on fire, Mike was unreal. Ed got pretty emotional before (and during) Come Back, and again when talking about EB before Faithfull.

Daughter was a crowd request. Ed said they wouldn’t normally repeat it so soon but they had no choice.

Ed also gave multiple shout-outs to the crowd’s singing - everyone in there sang their asses off tonight. It was such a great atmosphere in the GC area.

So many highs, zero lows. More to say when I can gather my thoughts in the morning.

    I fucking love this band!

An Australian friend I met nearly twenty years ago through the band’s music shared the video of Ed introducing Given To Fly overnight.  I’m in the US so it was in the wee hours of the morning.

I was aware friends of Strugs were sharing his story with 10C requesting Given To Fly and personally knowing very little, but all too much at the same time, to wake up and watch that video and hear Ed call him by name, and then for him to be mentioned in the original post above was very moving.  I had chills and was honestly moved watching the video.

Given to Fly is played most every show, and the band could have played it without mentioning his name or the requests and we would have thought it might have been played for him, but to go that extra bit to pause and mention him was very kind and thoughtful and I’m certain there were tears shed during the song last night.
Thank you for being the band that does this kind of thing year after year, decade after decade.  It’s one of the many reasons we feel so connected to each other, fan to fan and fan to band alike.

  • Fantastic set… built so nicely early with Even Flow rolling in 2nd dig. To hear Interstellar is always energising (I had a radio show named Interstellar Overdrive at uni / college many moons ago); It’s Ok back-2-back shows is special; Come Back - emotional (more avacado please); SOL&T mid-set is a throw back to 2000 tour - love it!; Sonic Reducer - ballin’; Indiffernence to end - love it!. Great vibe - shout out as always - KZ, CrookedArmKiwi, BigTys; Greg; Dimi for relaying to the masses.

Absolutely killed it and the bands mystical connection to their fans just keeps getting stronger..it really is mystical.

We are talking about 10 years of not being in Australia and they are still so loved here. They deserve it  - their charitable works, philosophy on life and the way they love and respect their fans, the emotion in their music, the power of the lyrics. Not only did we get some of the most epic Pearl Jam songs, but we got a superb showing from the Dark Matter, with Scared of fear, the title track, wreckage and Waiting for Stevie and Running.

Mike Mcready, blew the crowd away with his solos. That solo in Black was unforgettable when Ed went over to Mike and sang we belong together to him. The whole band do. Matt had a stellar night on drums. Eddie's voice seems to have lost almost nothing in a decade. Stone and Jeff masterful as ever.

To get that setlists which apart from the familiar epics, Even Flow, Corduroy, Alive, Jeremy, Black, Daughter also gave us Release as the opener (so early 90s!),  Nothing man, Faithfull and Lukin, Porch and not to mention one of my personal favourite State of Love and Trust.

Absolutely unforgettable in the Golden Circle and Saturday night I'll watch it al again from the stands. A dream to see them twice in 2 days.

I would love to know if there was anyone that’s been to Melbourne or Sydney shows that also went to msg 2 Fenway 2 or either Philly show to see how they would compare them and the crowd.  I was at the referenced USA shows but nothing this leg     This set tonight feels like the best Australian show of the tour and rivals those Philly Fenway shows    Congrats to all that were there!  Cant believe only 1 left for the whole tour.   We go into the weird phase of not knowing what’s next    What a album what a tour what a year thank you Pearl Jam once again

Hi Kat, Wes here - the one who Ed gave a shoutout to for my brother Chaz. Honestly singlehandedly one of the most spiritual nights of my life. It was an entire celebration of music, life, and to make the most of it.

A huge shoutout to the band and their management for getting my request to Ed at such short notice. They really are the band that keeps on giving.

    Love
    Wes

The biggest win for me was Upper Hand being swapped out for Black. UH is my least favourite DM song (although I’d still like to see it live), but that version of Black was something else.

I was hoping for Upper Hand and was disappointed that it was the song Black replaced when I saw the set list. But yeah the solo was unbelievable. I am still hoping it gets a run tomorrow night.
