“Waiting for Stevie” Named Record Store Day’s Song of the Year
News October 2 2024

Featured on Pearl Jam’s 12th studio album Dark Matter, “Waiting for Stevie” has been named Record Store Day’s ‘Song of the Year’. During an April 2024 interview with Howard Stern, Eddie Vedder explained, “It’s a song about being affected by music. And music changing your life, and maybe leading you to your tribe.”

“The sentiment behind the music and the fact that it’s just an overall amazing rock track that transcends when performed live makes “Waiting for Stevie” an easy pick for RSD Song of the Year,” says Michael Kurtz, co-founder of Record Store Day.

To further celebrate the track’s superlative, Record Store Day will be releasing a limited number of 12” single pressings, available at participating record stores on November 29th. Side A features a live performance of “Waiting for Stevie” from the band’s May 30, 2024 hometown show. On the flip side will be “Wreckage”, live from Las Vegas on May 16, 2024.

Seriously one of (if not THE) the best songs on the album. Why it was a trailing track after the title track as a single for Dark Matter is astounding. Can't wait to pick this up.

"Dark Matter" was a hugely successful single which rocketed to number one at rock radio in the U.S. and Canada. Pearl Jam hadn't had a hit that big in 18 years. "Waiting for Stevie" has not even reached the top 20 after five weeks. They knew what they were doing when they made "Dark Matter" the lead single and followed it up with "Wreckage," which hit number one at rock radio in the U.S. and Canada and at U.S. Triple-A radio.

I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Stevie is the best PJ song since, like Severed Hand or Inside Job.

Good by Pearl Jam standards, but Pearl Jam doesn't get streamed very much in the grand scheme of things.

That’ll change with a sweaty Dua Lipa collab

It's getting a lot of play on radio (WMMR) here in Philly, even surprised me.

Don't come closer or I'll have to go
