Just wondering what you guys know about these: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Danelectro-Dano-63-Electric-Guitar?sku=516099

Anyone played one? Know anything about them? I saw one at a local music store, but didnt have time to plug one in. Picked it up for a minute and messed with it and it had a pretty nice feel. Any thoughts? Looks like a fun little guitar. Just curious how it sounds plugged in and if it will last...Thanks!

I've heard that they play really well. I know Jimi Paige used a Dano, a lot. (I don't know if that's the same model, though). Also, those lipstick pickups are said to be really clean. Of course, this is just hearsay because I've never been able to try one.

Yeah, I've heard they are pretty clean. I really liked the feel of them, just never got to plug it in. I may have to go back to the store to check them out.

  • I have a DC from back when they did the reproduction in the late 90's. Clean, low output (extremely low), janglely. I'm sure this '63 deal has something similar. I use mine a lot, again it's not the same model that is pictured.

The lipstick pickups are notoriously low-output, great for clean tones, but not at all beefy in tone. They do have a jangly, lo-fi, glassy clean tone that a lot of people like.

Page did indeed play a Dan-o DC-2, like shown here:
