Mould spores under shrink wrap

My parents have had some of my vinyl in storage whilst they have been moving.

I've just noticed some mould under the shrink wrap of some vinyl.

Is there anyway to remove this without taking it out of the wrap?

Any help would be appreciated.

  • I'm not aware of anyway you would be able to remove that mold thru the shrink wrap. Best to remove the wrap and clean right away. Numerous posts you can search on Google with best methods/products to remove...Good luck!!

Any new realizations... would have to wait...
Til he had more time,... more time...
Time to dream,... to himself... he waves goodbye,
To himself... I'll see you on the other side...
  • Yep. Having the mold on the records does nothing for the value of the record if there is such a thing. So you may want to unseal and salvage what you can. I have unsealed all of mine and put them in protective covers to preserve but numerous people have said that leaving records sealed can be very bad for the physical record.

Very hard to listen to as well if they remain sealed.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

Yep, bad for the albums, over time will keep shrinking and ruin the jackets and possibly contributing to warpage issues. Not to mention the worry of getting a wrong record inside of a jacket!

OP - i would just open it up, dry it out and clean as best as possible.

Take lp out. Put jacket in the sun for a bit afteryou clean it. Mold hates sun. Don't put record in the sun. I repeat take out vinyl first.

Thanks again everyone 😊 I have since removed all plastic and cleaned, and have made sure the covers (not vinyl) are in the sunlight for the day.

I believe @Brothermoon is back to making sleeves for these vaults if that would help you. Reach out to them and they may be able to sort you out with some protective sleeves to keep those Vaults safe!
