"Klinghoffer was charged on Aug. 29 with vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, a misdemeanor that can bring a maximum of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine."

Yesterday a "not guilty" plea was entered. What's the legal basis/reasoning of doing this - to lessen the charges or penalties?

Should he kill himself or keep on living?

My take of my good friend Es post, was that it must be hard living with feelings of guilt after a causing a collision resulting in death.

I mostly just wonder why a not guilty plea. I guess maybe to try to get less consequences

Yeah, I suppose their argument is that what happened is a lesser crime than manslaughter.

So he could try to get an infraction or lawful act that causes death? Like the cell phone distraction that was reported is just an infraction not a misdemeanor?

I guess I don't really know the difference between misdemeanor and felony to begin with. The states is trickier than Canada.

I'll look up what a misdemeanor is next when I try to understand this.

Hmm could see him trying to reduce above thing but he's already got a lesser charge. it doesn't seem trying for less fits?
