My Evil Twin

My evil twin was up late last night and placed a bid on a quartet of Weber AlNiCo 10" speakers for my Crate cabinet. And we won the auction. $200 for four Webers. Now I really am broke. Goddamn it! Still... it's a pretty good buy... a quartet of Jensens would have cost $320, a quartet of Webers from the company would have been $340.

On a side-note, I now have 4 Crate ceramic 10" speakers, rated 35 watts at 16 ohms that I would sell... anyone interested? They sounded pretty good, but with my recently-purchased Marshall cab, I don't need two ceramic-loaded cabinets, and I definitely don't need 16 ohms. You could buy two and wire them parallel, get them down to 8 ohms. Buy four, wire them parallel, down to 4 ohms. Buy four, wire them series-parallel, for 16 ohms. Anyone interested?

    Anyone? No takers?

I could always build a pair of 2x10" cabinets...

    Yeah, well...

A pair of 2x10" cabinets could be cool. Get some oak-veneer plywood for the shell, and use a stain-and-laquer natural finish. Might be a fun project over Christmas.

So, grill-cloth, metal grill, or exposed cone? Any other suggestions?

grill cloth. tan. ala classic 60's blackface Black tolex. create your own logo out of clay, fire it and attach it in the middle.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

So wheatcloth? Oxblood would look sweet, too.

I dunno about the logo. Maybe I could find a cool little aluminum or steel logo... preferably a pair, so the two cabinets will match.

    I might do a micro-stack...

Hmm... there are indeed some fun opportunities here.

right. If you're lucky you could find some old Orange grill cloth. Very cool. Looks awesome on black too. Man it'd be expensive but cool if you could get some logos custom made like Jesse James from West Coast Choppers. that'd be cool. and original.

if i had bought that mayfly BC15 before, i'd have been all over a mini stack made from 2 10s.

Actually, it will be 4 10's. Two cabs, each with two 10's. Both cabs will be 8 ohms, but in parallel, that's 4 ohms. Perfect for a small gig... use one or both, depending on the room. Again, one on either side of the drum riser...

I spent the bulk of my Macroeconomics class designing the cabinets... I can get the shells built out of one sheet of plywood, then get baffles cut from another piece. Add two 2x4's for baffle frames, etc. and I'm in business. I need two speaker input jacks with parallel connectors... any suggestions?
