Well, a musician/friend of mine has been working on steadily improving his gear and tone, with quite a bit of time and effort on my part... in the last two days, we've accomplished the following:

-Put his Peavey Classic 50 4x10 up for sale
-Committed to buying my Fender Bassman 50
-Purchased a 2x12" speaker cab with Mojo Tone speakers
-Purchased a Fender Jag-Stang
-Found a Martin 000-15 that he is going to trade his Martin DC-1E for
-Built a pedal board for his array

He's also getting ready to send his Blues Driver and TR-2 Tremolo to Keeley for mods, and will probably install either a Fishman Rare Earth or an LR Baggs system in the 000-15. Next on the list: Replace the Mojo cab with an Orange 2x12".

In the end, the only pieces of gear he'll have left are an Ibanez Artcore guitar (335-style) and a 1960's Martin nylon-string. Everything else will be new (to him, anyways).

CD release show is Friday night... this is gonna be a long week, folks...

mig, didnt you buy the sovtek 50? Doesnt that kinda defeat the purpose of the bassman? Not that im knocking the bassman. also, hows that jag-stang playing?

Well, my friend bought the Bassman FROM me... I'd picked up the Bassman on a trade, figuring that would substitute for the Sovtek, but then my buddy was interested in the Bassman and I found the Sovtek. So, the stars aligned, that's that. The Jag-Stang was an eBay purchase, so we haven't seen it yet, and again, it's for my friend, not for me.

The pedalboard we built is pretty damn nice, we painted it matte black and added cornerpieces, feet, and two handles. He has a Boss tuner to power up his pedals, and we attached a power strip along the board to use for that. The handles are the best part... just regular econo cabinet handles, one on either side of the pedal array. Makes moving it nice, and you can use the handles to strain-relieve the cables in and out of the board. I actually took the leftover piece of wood and painted it, built a board for myself in roughly the same manner (a bit smaller, but functional). It was remarkably easy, God bless Home Depot.

I disagree... I've had a lot of luck with the Peavey tube amps out there. And for about $100 less, you can get a Peavey version of the Fender Hot Rod amps that sounds as good and is equally reliable. I'll be the first person to knock Peavey solid-state amps (besides my dark horse, the Bandit II), but at the same time, I'll knock Fender solid-state amps just as readily (especially reflecting their measurably high prices).

But what it all comes down to is personal preference...

say what you want the peavey classic tube series is a great series.

The Transtube series from a couple of years ago (before they fucked around with modelling and DFX) are excellent amps

The 5150 is outstanding if overkill. They are an excellent alternative to the overly common Marshall JCM's and sound excellent and different especially on Fat Strats with Duncan Humbuckers. They have a very loud sparkle an inbetween Fender and Marshall Grind no british midrange just American muscle.

I've seen just as much shit with the Marshall logo on it frankly.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
