The time for decision has come!

I gave up on the Strat, after much soul-searching and introspection.

I decided I want one of my '72 Tele Deluxes. NOW.

I went down today to pre-order the guitar, and they had one in stock, just received it. It was like a sign from the gods...

I am getting a Fender 1972 Telecaster Deluxe reissue, black on black with a maple neck, CBS headstock. I purchased a pickguard on eBay that is ready to fit P-90 pickups, and all I have to do is order a set of Lindy Fralins for it. Put a down payment on it and everything, this WILL BE MINE!

I was looking pre-emptively at Fralins, and found this beauty:

Eddie wanna-be's take note!

So, I guess you can't go home again... but you can go somewhere new!
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

What the FUCK!!! That's Perfect!!!! $503 WITH LINDY FRALINS!!!!!! tremtech nut.

all that needs to be done is convert the machines to lockers.

must resist urge to bid, I really want a strat.

besides that, the tele sounds excellent, good plan mig, it will sound great through your mig.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

That SG is a VERY pretty instrument. If I hadn't had my heart set on twin Tele Deluxes... You know that thing will go for $1000, though... too new, too nice.

I can't wait to have the finished product in my hands. It'll probably be two weeks, but it'll be worth it. Musician's Friend has a poly case for $60 that I'm pretty sure I'll pick up. I'd love a Fender tweed case, but those things go for $150. I think the Gator will be sufficient.

It looks like my tele, only different neck and you'll be putting in two p90's. So, are fralin's noticably better than Gibson p90's?

I only ask because probably a year or less after the strat, depending on how good I am at saving money, is when I'll be getting the SG Special. I want to see how it sounds with the stock pups first. If I don't like the sound I get, it'll be time to try some p90's.

Well, I'd rather have the normal Strat headstock, not the CBS, but that's what it comes with. You have the Tele headstock?

Fralins are supposed to be clearer, more output, and better bass response compared to the Gibsons. The set I just ordered has the neck 10% underwound and the bridge 5% overwound. That should make for a good, clean, warm tone from the neck and some serious bite and growl out of the neck.

Hell, why wait? Get the SG I linked to... that thing is sweet!

yeah, it's too bad those fender cases are beautiful, but 150 is ridiculous unless it's an acoustic and you have humidifiers and crap in there.

I didn't realize the SG classic also has a bound fretboard. I think a grand is what they go for new, but hell he's got 200+ in pickups. That's a steal even at a grand.

regardless, you can never go home again. Good decision going with what you want now. The tele will be badass, she's a sweet little guitar and she'll treat you right.

There was a good reason you parted ways with that saucy little strat. She was cute, but not for you. Always look to the future my friend.

Nice decision, can't wait to hear your review once you have it setup the way you want it.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

Well, mine is the '72 Custom RI, it's not a deluxe. But they do look very very similar.

I was gonna ask you about the overwound/underwound thing. I checked out the fralin site and I wasn't sure what percentages would do what for the sound. Trust me, that ebay sg is very tempting. Besides, the guy only ships to the U.S.

Overwound, hotter, more mids. Fatter. Helps to kill the shrills on the bridge end.

Underwound, more bell like, less output, more treble, rich and full. Retains the high end in the neck pickup.

It determines on the total output and character of the pickup.

Cool, now I wonder what percent. Hhmmm. I'm thinking maybe 0% or 5% underwound for the neck and 10% overwound for the bridge one.

2 hours and 39 minutes to go and it's at $513. I'm REALLY tempted. Even with exchange and shipping, it still works out to under $1000 Canadian.

Buy it, ship it to me, and I'll meet you at the border. Based on what MapQuest says, we're only about 2.5 hours apart, and the border is half-way. I'm completely serious, dude.

He can't accept a credit card if shipping to a different address...damn. I don't have enough dough in the bank for a money order, which would work. Dammit.

    Well, my offer stands.

It's a damn nice guitar, but it's a big decision to make on the fly.

Thanks man, I will remember that in the future. But I will have to let this one go to someone else. It's at $758 in Canadian funds right now, including the shipping. Not enough dough for the money order. Damn. Oh well. Maybe it's just a sign that I should wait for my strat., however long it takes to save up...lol.

It's a case of waiting for Ms. Right, not Ms. Right Now...

    I just went through that.

That SG is worth salivating over, for sure... great color, lots of add-ons, great pickups, etc...

I'm glad I don't have a credit card... that way I can't spend money I don't have. My debit card gets me into enough trouble, anyways...

What's special about the nut? The pups are definately a plus. The colour, is classic, but there's just something about blueishteal. I'm glad I'm smart with my one and only credit card. I could charge up that RI strat right now AND get an sg special and replace the pups right away and I'd still have over half of the credit still left. But ya see, I don't have nearly enough in the bank to pay off the bill right away when it comes so I can't do that. I hate being responsible sometimes.

It's unbelievable. Someone got one hell of a great guitar. If I hadn't already ordered all the parts and put a down payment on my Tele, I might've bid $700.
