COME BACK for Dan Grigal
If you've seen the Pearl Jam Fan Portraits book, published by Tanya Kang, my best friend Dan Grigal is pictured in the Memorial section. The last show we were both at together also happened to be the Ten show back in 2016 in Philly. Fast forward a few years, and Dan got diagnosed with cancer just as Covid started. That diagnosis coincided with our planning to go to several shows in 2020, which obviously didn't happen. For the rest of 2020 into 2021, Dan did his best to battle cancer, but unfortunately we lost him in May 2021.
Since then so many PJ/EV songs bring his memory back up for me and his close family and friends, including Brother the Cloud and Upper Hand. But the one song where every lyric is perfect to capture how many people feel about Dan is Come Back. At the highest level, the 2 words of the title obviously sum it up beautifully, and the whole song is the perfect encapsulation of what many continue to feel every single day. Hearing this on Thursday night would form a much needed connection between earth and heaven, even if only for a few minutes.
My friend and I will be on Stone's side. If anyone can help get this in front of the band, you've got my appreciation.
Much love,
Bob Czechowicz (pronounced check-uh-wits)

After the song got played a few times on that 2022 tour, Tanya had posted Dan's picture holding up the Dirty Frank lyric. This was less than a year after Dan's passing, and randomly and unexpectedly seeing his smiling face was a welcome surprise. Tanya and I connected, she sent me several prints of Dan's photo that I was able to give to his wife and kids, and she said she would feature him in the aforementioned Memorial section. The world sure does work in mysterious ways.....
