The GT is a 2004 Fender Custom Tele, MIM, sold exclusively thru Musician's Friend. All-mahogany, set neck, 24.75" scale. Pickups are a Seymour Duncan '59 (PAF) in the bridge and a Gibson Classic '57 in the neck. A Tele that thinks it's a Les Paul!

The White one is a 1998 Fender Nashville Tele, MIM. Pups are a Harmonic Design S90 in the bridge and Fralin High Output Strat in the middle and neck, with a 5-way switch wired in traditional Strat fashion.

I sold the custom-wound DiMarzio's from the GT already, and the standard Tele pups are going into a cheap beater Tele I bought a month ago. But the original Nashville pickguard and the original Tex-Mex Strat middle pickup from the Nashville are going on eBay. Bid early, bid often!

Paco is probably wondering how the S90 and the Fralin's sound together... or how the S90 sounds in general... maybe I'll make ya sweat, buddy...

The GT is a perfect Tele/Les Paul middle ground. The set neck and all-mahogany construction and 24.75" scale really make for an LP tonal guitar, and the pickups are textbook LP. But the body style and string-thru-body construction give it plenty of twang, especially in the bridge pup. I'll probably replace the nut with bone, and it'll be done.

The Nashville, on the other hand... the Strat pups sound very Strat-like, and positions 2 & 4 are VERY quacky, exactly what I wanted. This guitar will spend most of it's time in pos. 1 and pos. 4, with a little time in pos. 5 and a little time in pos. 2. The S90 is freaking phenomenal! It drives my little tube amps great, and drives an OD even better. The only reservation I had was whether the S90 would match with the High Output Strat pups (versus the Blues Specials). Paco, you'll probably be happy to know that the Blues Specials probably would've been a better choice; the High Output versions are a little TOO hot. I have the output well-matched, but the Strat pups are fairly far away from the strings to get a good match. I do like the tone, though, it's a little darker due to the overwinds. Perhaps down the line I may replace them, but I'll make due with it as-is for now. It's still a great guitar, and the pickups are amazing. It's exactly what I hoped it would be.

I cut my first album with a shoreline gold tele jr. Needless to say I have a soft spot for set neck tele's with a shorter scale. Nothing else sounds quite like them. Your GT rocks! You should try to find a mid-90's tele jr to cover the P-90 thing. :)

    I've got it covered...

The pic isn't great, but that's a RI '72 Tele Deluxe with Fralin P-90's. And it's amazing. I'll be replacing the neck with a rosewood fretboard Strat neck from Warmoth down the line, but it's pretty sweet already.

cheers for the goldtop. i don't like the mix of covered and uncovered but that's just my almost OCD-like dislike of asymmetry. it's a damn beautiful instrument.

Jimmy Page was the main inspiration to go with mismatched pups:

I thought about putting 57's in both places, but I really wanted that raw, raunchy sound in the bridge compared to the smoother, mellow sound in the neck. I would've liked a matched look, but the sound is more important to me, and the looks are kinda funky and cool. Both pups together is just about perfect... I've always had issues with the sound of combined humbuckers, but this combo is perfect. Their output balances really well, and the variety of tones available is amazing. Once I get a bone nut cut for it... heaven...

I took it to a jam night at a local bar a few nights ago, and the other guitar players guessed it was a $2500-3500 guitar. Ha! More like $700 altogether. I realize it resembles a Les Paul, but that doesn't mean it cost as much.
