Im watching betterman from when he was on the tour.... i know he used pretty big toms and big bass drum, he always had a big sound. 14" tom, 16", 18" and 24" bass?? im guessing and had 3 crashes which were all big rock crashes and maybe 15" hats
“ ahh…. Yaa…. If you trust me at all… if you wanna listen to me at all… which you certainly don’t have to. Speaking from experience I can tell you that things change. You could believe me, you don’t have to. They probably won’t change, unless you make them. The best way to change something around you, something you don’t like, is.. to change yourself. I don’t think you want other people changing you.. I think.. I think.. the only person you want changing you… is yourself. So if you ain’t happy…. If you’re reading magazines about generation x’s and thinking ‘ya im one of them’ well fuck that…. Don’t let anybody tell you who you are. No… No…. No one can tell me who I am. I can tell you who I am but that would be a long story… I can tell you who I am and it wouldn’t fit in a Rolling Stone…. It wouldn’t fit in a video… it wouldn’t… its my life…. Its your life. Youre the only one that knows who you are. I hope you know who you are. If you don’t know who you are, figure it out. Cause you are some body. And Im probably stating the obvious. But I just thought I would do it anyway. So if you fell like you got a piece of duct tape on your mouth, if you feel like you cant speak. Take it off, Speak up. Speak your Mind. Shout it Out. Let ‘em Hear Ya. Shout it out…… YAAA YAAAAA yAAAAAAAAAAA.” Eddie Vedder (Porch ’96 Randle Island 2)

Search around, because I found a very interesting website on Jack, which talked extensively about some of the gear that he used. Sorry I can't give you the exact address, it was a while ago...but, it's out there.

Here is my best shot at some of his gear: 5x14" Ludwig Supraphonic snare, 8x12" rack tom, 16x16" floor tom, 16x18" floor tom, 18x22" bass drum. I know that Jack used that particular snare on No Code and Yield. He is also known to have used DW and Slingerland drums. I believe that the kit on Single Video Theory is a DW with a custom finish, and the Supraphonic snare. Looks to me like he's using 14" K Zildjian Hi-hats, K Custom Crashes, I've heard that his ride was some sort of A Custom, and then of course, the trash can lid. I know that he uses Pro-Mark sticks and Evans drumheads.
I hope that I am of some help, and that most of this is accurate (I may be off on some of these details, most are accurate).

Do any of you have his solo album? Very unique and cool stuff :)
  • Jack made the cover of Modern Drummer June 1998. I'm looking at it now and it has a diagram of his kit:

DW Drumset: 5x14 Ludwig Supra-Phonic 400 snare; 8x12 tom; 16x16 and 16x18 floor tom; and 16x24 bass drum.

Zildjian Cymbals: 14 hi-hats (K Dark Crash top, K Custom Dark bottom); 18 K Custom Dark Crash; 20 Z Custom ride; 18 K Custom Dark Crash with rivets; 17 K Custom Dark crash; 21 Oriental China Trash

    Pro-Mark 737 model sticks.
