  • Too much resonance after the hit?

What kind of heads are you using? Clear or coated? One ply or two? Dry or hydraulic?

What are the dimensions of your toms? Small, regular, or oversize?

The cheap fix is duct tape. Just put a few strips, 3-4" long, on the edges of the top head. The bottom head may need help, too. There are different types of head-muffling systems you can buy, like tone rings, gel packs, or the EMAD system.

But generally, you tune drums to the natural resonance of the shell. Some people tune their drums to 1-4-5, but that takes a little more knowledge and finesse. The best thing I can tell you is to tune your bottom heads a little higher than your top heads if you want less resonance.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
