Is anyone taking Amtrack between NY and Hartford or Hartford and Boston or Boston back to NY? Or is that the best way to get from show to show if you don't have a car. Or should I rent a car?

Could actually be a better alternative to driving. No traffic. No high gas prices (although Amtrak is kinda expensive..). You get to sleep ;)
I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

  • I thought this was a beer tolerance/tailgaiting thread :) On that note, Mickey D's cheeseburgers are a great cure for the day after hangover/nasuea.
  • As a Boston resident, frequent NYC visitor, and someone who'd also be trying to save some cash, I think the most efficient approach is a bus tom/from Boston & NYC, and then renting a car in Boston to drive you out to Mansfield. Even if you were to take a train via Boston & NYC, you'd still have to get out to Mansfield, which is no easy task. A bus between the two cities is only $40 roundtrip on Greyhound (and only about a 1-and-1/2 hour ride), and you can rent from Avis for pretty cheap (I think it's like $87/24 hours for a fuel-efficient compact).

Not as much insight to travel to/from Hartford; the only time I ever go there is for PJ, and I always just hitch a ride with a buddy.

Thanks! I'll look into the bus option too. However, I am meeting a friend in Boston and he will have a car so I'll have a ride to and from Mansfield. I just need to get in between the big cities.

I don't know how reliable the train is between those two destinations but Amtrak where we live is ALWAYS way behind schedule. Hours late.

If you only have a limited amount of time, or unless it's different on that route, I think the bus might be a better idea.
