A Wrigley Song Wish: Go!
Let me start by saying that I'm fully aware this is not a particularly rare song. If setlist.fm is to be trusted, it's their 18th most-played song ever. So I understand how ridiculous it is to come here and say, "I want to hear this immensely popular, regularly played song!" But here's where I explain why!
I've been with my long-term partner for over eight years. We aren't married, though we basically are. We own a home together, and we're locked into one another's lives pretty deeply. Both of us are big music people with tastes that span everything from experimental ambient and classical music to death and black metal. That said, my partner was never a Pearl Jam fan. She wasn't a hater, but she didn't grow up with them and really only knew the big radio singles.
In 2019, the two of us traveled to Los Angeles to attend the hardcore festival Sound & Fury. On the second stage was a band called Ekulu who, at the time, had just a couple 7-inch EPs to their name. Midway through their set, I hear a distinct drum groove start and then a quick count-off and, for a split second, I thought, "I can't believe these dudes are ripping off 'Go' this overtly" But then the singer starts and it's a straight-on cover of "Go," and a great one at that. As soon as the song ends, my girlfriend taps me on the arm and was like, "What song what that? It was so good!" And I tell her it was actually a Pearl Jam cover!
Ever since then, she's become a full-on Pearl Jam fan. She puts them on in her free time and has gone deep into the band. We saw them together at the United Center last year and her big hope was to hear "Go" and, though we got close with "Why Go," it wasn't meant to be. We're hitting these two Wrigley shows and it's my huge hope that we get to see them play "Go" at least one of these nights so I can see her eyes light up as she jumps around to what is her first, and favorite, Pearl Jam song.
