Hello,

I looking for the Marshall Plexi Jump sound, (mike uses also a plexi one )
I cant affort the amp, because i bought a peavey classic 50 head and cabinet.
But i just love the sound of a marshall plexi jump. I hope there is a Stombox/pedal that i could put in
front of my amp... Does anyone know if it exist?
thanks and rock on !!!!!!!!

no pedal is going to completely give you that sound, however I have found the pro co RAT series to be very good at emulating that particular tone. The venerable Marshall in a box.

I have one that is modified for clarity and 3 modes by Robert Keeley that is excellent.

So much was involved with that exact tone you can spend a fortune trying to emulate it and many have but if you are just trying to get close that's a start. Putting a boost in front of it such as a Tubescreamer, or Zvex SHO or Pharaoh Class A will make the rat sound much more alive and authentic. A big part of that sound was also playing dynamics he hit the strings very hard. I would suggest 11's so you might need to change your set up.

I could go into depth talking about how to achieve this sound but I don't think either of our pockets are deep enough to actually achieve it.

The Van Halen pick up is available from the Seymour Duncan custom shop for 149.95. You have to ask for it, it's not on the list.

If you have some change and you really want the sound check out the Soldano Supercharger. Basically it's the preamp from the Soldano Super Lead Overdrive. It's an amazing overdrive boost pedal dosen't really sound like a pedal at all. Runs about 400 bucks.

The Electro Harmonix Hot Tubes, runs about half that at around 200 bucks. It's also a great pedal. The Rat is your best bet for Marshall in a box tone at the lowest price. The Supercharger is more modern sounding.

    check it out at http://www.musictoyz.com

also check out http://www.legendarytones.com/ for some tips on that tone.

What kind of tone comes from a Plexi?(who uses them) I always hear people talking about them but i've never played one. Sorry, i'm a fender guy and just curious. Maybe I'll have to check one out.
If we all stop voting, will they all go away?

that should help you a little. Plexi refers to the plexiglass panel on the back of the amps I believe.

Usually the term Plexi is used to describe single channel Marshall amplifiers from the 1960's and 70's. Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Pete Townsend, (pretty much everyone in rock and roll) has used a Marshall "plexi" at one time or another. there are a few different models. Mike McCready has a JMP he used to tour with you can see it on TB 2000.

I thought "plexi" referred to a plexiglass control panel...

Interesting side note: The reissues of the Plexi amps don't use plexiglass, they use aluminum (I believe, anyways). Plexi was never an official Marshall term, it's just gearhead vernacular, so it's not like fraud or anything...
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
