stupid question (Head&preamps)

is there a difference between a bass head and bass preamp?

can you define em?

also can u defin cabinet while you're at it

and can a cabinet work stand alone or do u need a preamp or head?

    head: both preamp and power amp in one box.
    preamp: no power amp section. can't drive a speaker but can be used direct recording or connection to a PA system.
    cabinet: the thing with the speakers in it. needs a power amp to drive them.
