Dark Matter is the 6th best selling album on Discogs (so far this year)
With the first half of 2024 complete, a picture of the best-selling albums of the year is emerging. While there will no doubt be new additions and upsets throughout 2024’s B-side, these 25 records are the current chart-toppers.
Record Store Day releases make up a large portion here. However, there are still a few long-time Discogs’ favorites that cracked the list, including two Massive Attack records, and Tracy Chapman‘s tried-and-true self-titled album, which received a sales bump following the singer’s performance of “Fast Car” with Luke Combs at the Grammys.
A special shoutout goes to Taylor Swift‘s Tortured Poet’s Society. While the record has been a mainstay on our monthly best-selling lists, its sales have been split between several vinyl variants and editions, meaning no single version made the top 25. For those interested, the current best-selling variant of the album is a tie between the US and European “Black Dog” versions, which have slight cosmetic differences. Swift’s Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions did come in at seventh place though.
Other notable releases include Pearl Jam‘s Dark Matter, which is the only new record of the year on this list that isn’t an RSD release, a reissue of the late-great Nujabe‘s Modal Soul, and classic picks like Sade‘s Diamond Life and Frank Ocean‘s Blonde.
