specific question about Epiphone Casino's

I'm thinking of buying one. Usually I immediately go to the used market, but since Casino's don't cost that much and I don't find them easily used overhere, I was thinking of buying a new one.

BUT... what I was wondering: is the quality of a new one good? Or should I go look for a used one anyway, from a specific era (not vintage, too expensive, but like from the 80's or 90's). Or is a brand new one a good way to go?

In one phrase: is the quality of a new one worth the money?

and in other news, since I've been away for a very long time: hi Pac, Bob, Greg. How are you guys?

i have a 2006 model made in korea that i like very much. i did rewire the controls to suit my needs but they were fine in stock form. i like the pickups a lot. still one of my favourite guitars. the necks seem bigger on more recent models versus what they were a few years ago too.

i've heard they may have moved production of the casino to china but i can't confirm. i did just buy a brand new sheraton II and it was still korean.

i know they stopped making left-handed ones so i'm holding on to mine forever.

it has a few little finish detail issues (just sloppiness) but that's typical of all but the elitist model epis.

and i'm ok besides desperate unhappiness, depression, and general dissatifaction with life. haha.
  • As reliable as ever you :) Thanks

I'm actually selling my Telecaster to finance this.

Funny, that desperate unhappiness, depression, and general dissatifaction with life sounds very, very, very familiar.

I think i got in the last year they made a lefty too! I like it a lot, but i've got meaty old fingers, and feel the neck is a little too narrow for my liking. the sound and playability are sweet though.
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

Hi Stefan, Hope the family is well.

I've had good luck with most of the korean ones, especially the elitist ones but generally the standard model is pretty solid out of the box. For whatever reason the casnios are usually pretty nice right off the wall, I usually find more sheratons that I have distaste for than the average casino (could have something to do with hollow vs semi hollow). They almost always are nice from the factory in my experience. You might need a setup and eventually want to upgrade. But I like them in general.

I would wholeheartedly avoid anything from China I think the Regular models are staying in Korea but the elitist models have ceased production so gibson can get 1000 dollars more on US built ES 330's... but it comes in blue. holla!!

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-ES330-Long-Neck-Electric-Guitar?sku=527894 I say yes, wife says she wants a house.

I think if you can get one for around $500 or $550 US you'll be pretty happy with it.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

gee, now i can call mine a long neck casino since the non-elitist ones have the 17th fret joint too.
  • Hey Paco, how are you these days? Thanks for the input. I'm aiming at a new standard model Casino. No extra mayo. I hear a lot of good things and I like the sound it makes, based on bands that use them. Gonna test it myself first though.

I'm really into photography these days as well (even do some jobs now and then) and that is another money sucking hobby.

    cheers y'all
