PITTSBURGH – David "Jake" Dutch, one of the two victims critically wounded by gunshots at the Trump rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, walked down the bleachers with a T-shirt bunched up against his wounds before getting help, friends told Fox News Digital.
Dutch, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, was struck twice at the Trump rally — once in the stomach and once in the liver, according to those who know him at the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars lodges in Lower Burrell.
"He's been a tremendous help to this club," VFW commander Lee Johnson told Fox News Digital. "He's involved with a couple different things we have here at the club. And I just feel so bad for David, his wife … great people. They've been members here for a long, long time."
Johnson added that all the members are wishing Dutch a speedy recovery.
The 57-year-old was apparently showing signs of responsiveness Tuesday, Johnson said, though he did not know the full extent of the Marine vet's recovery or condition.
Another VFW member described Dutch as a "wonderful man" who loved his country and loved former President Trump; it had been a dream of his for a long time to attend a rally, she said.
Other friends at the American Legion described Dutch, who works at Siemens Innomotics in the Pittsburgh area, as a quiet guy who was humble about his military service.
"If you didn't already know he was a Marine, you'd never know it," Roger Milliron Jr., who said he's known Dutch for 20 years, told Fox News Digital. "He isn't a loud or boisterous person. He keeps to himself. He is a hard worker. He's a friend."
The morning after the rally, when the legion opened, Milliron and his friends were chatting at the bar when he shared the news about Dutch.
"And then we told everybody that was here what happened, and it went from jovial conversation to you could hear a pin drop," Milliron said.
Steven Penn said Dutch would give anyone the shirt off his back, and he loves his country.

What does this have to do with the RNC? Topic integrity and all. Please start a POOTWH Assassination Attempt Rally thread or whatever you want to call it.
I look forward to the Democrat version of this 8 ring circus with the equivalent of Ruddy Ghouliani having his bald head being wiped down at the My Pillow media booth being AOC having her armpits braided by Rashida Tlaib on one side and Ilhan Omar on the other at the Soros funded media podcast booth hosted by Al Franken and Senator Menendez.
With friends like these, who needs enemies? Are you POOTWH’ers really proud of these candidates and what they support? Honestly?
4. ‘Law and order,’ meet Trump’s convicted allies
A big theme Tuesday night was the rule of law and “law and order.” But for the second straight night Wednesday, we got a taste for how selective that emphasis is.
Among those present were four convicted criminals aligned with Trump: former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone, Trump-endorsing former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich (D) and former Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro. Manafort, Stone and Blagojevich, each granted clemency by Trump in 2020, were sentenced to a combined quarter-century’s worth of prison; Navarro got out of prison earlier Wednesday after serving four months for contempt of Congress.
Navarro was given the stage for a surprisingly long speech, in which he told the crowd, “In Trump’s America, you didn’t have to worry about being locked up for disagreeing with the government.I went to prison so you won’t have to.”
Navarro was convicted after refusing to comply with a subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee. While the subtext of his speech was that he was politically targeted, the judge in the case assured him earlier this year, “Let’s make clear, Dr. Navarro: You are not a victim of a political prosecution. … These are circumstances of your own making.”
Navarro claimed in his trial that Trump had asserted executive privilege over his testimony while he was president, but Navarro never provided direct evidence of that. And Trump advisers and attorneys didn’t vouch for that claim.
On Thursday, of course, a felon named Donald Trump will accept the GOP nomination.
Pete Navarro just released from prison given a speaking role and is kissy-kissy with his GF on stage? Get a room. “The party of family values.” Don’t they know kids are watching? Good lord. And Hulk Hogan tonight! To bring some reality to Milwaukee.

I googled it to see if it was true. Seems that it is. But also states that if you create Venmo on your phone it automatically takes contacts and adds them to your friends in Venmo. It suggests this is likely what happened when he created his account in 2016. Seeing he was a lawyer and law clerk at the time and not in politics, doesn’t seem like a big deal. Not all, or necessarily any of them had financial exchanges. Just contacts pulled from the phone.
Reading the headline that Vance is Venmo friends with DOJ lawyers who Trump doesn’t like and a co-founder of project 2025 sounds bad at first, but when you realize they were likely just contacts from his phone when he was a law clerk and probably had professional relationships with many of them as a lawyer it doesn’t seem like a big deal to me.
All this essentially boils down to they were just contacts in his phone when he was a lawyer in 2016.
And now I caught a clip of Hulk Hogan from earlier tonight. Good lord.
Heard earlier that Trump’s favorite topics to rant about haven’t been mentioned on the RNC floor: Rigged election, pardoning J6 participants, and his court cases. Be interesting to see if he can keep it on script.
Love the irony of folks holding up immigration signs at the convention when both candidates on their ticket married immigrants.
And didn’t the republicans used to complain about Obama reading off a teleprompter? I could be wrong but kind of remember that. Every time I turned that rambling incoherent babbling from Trump last night he couldn’t speak without staring at those teleprompters,
Do the republicans not realize how far they’ve fallen by the idiots they get to speak at their convention?
Let’s go back to a previous comment - republicans getting what they deserve when the promote the trump agenda. They bring out Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock and Dana White for the final night. 🤦🏻. R’s complaining about a slanted press went right along with those press people and pushed every other candidate to the side for the sake of the bad orange man. Still having a hard time believing him and old man Joe are the “best” we can come up with.
