Stupid question probably

But what does 'middle' really do, especially when you only have one speaker? Or doesn't that matter?

And while we're at it: what does treble really do?

    Not stupid, funny as hell though. Even with one speaker, you have to have a balance reference point for your volume control, usually the middle. Along with that treble control, is probably a bass control, again, its all about balancing the sound emitting from that one speaker.
