Watching this now. Super cool. In the first hour now. Crazy that as I’m growing up as an 8-12 year old, O’Brien is doing all this work ten minutes from my house! All the mentioning of Tucker, Gwinnett County and then later Wax N Facts and stuff downtown in Atlanta is so cool to hear. I drive by these places all the time.

Great listen so far. Really fascinated by the tall of using the piccolo snares and how the trend was to use them at the time to avoid them sounding "slow". I do feel Dave's whip crack snare sound is missed on some songs like MYM. Matt is a better drummer but I feel the sound is more thuddy for want of a better word, and this is really illuminating that people miss the sound more than the person-but it is more dependent on the drum choice than we think and it is also a stylistic decision. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Matt has bigger drums in that case. Any drummers here keen to chip in?

I completely agree. Absolutely fascinating to hear Brendan's stories after all these years. Kudos to Rick Beato on facilitating such a great interview.

So weird with Brendan focusing on the drums and what a great drummer Dave is…

… from this board I have learned that Dave is the worst drummer ever

So I guess the first ”full on” version of Betterman is on the Vitalogy tape that Dave A is YAPPING about having that sounds better than the final peoduct?

If he is tje greatest drummer why hasn’t he pushed out Lars Ulrich from Metallica or played with KISS on the reunion tour in 96

Well he hasn't been given Pneuma to figure out on the spot by the lads at Drumeo.

Man I felt almost sorry for Mike Portnoy...

    I enjoy those videos.
    Carey is obviously amazing.
    Portnoy as well.
I don't think it is the measure of a drummer but it sure is entertaining to watch how incredible those folks are.

    Brendan or Rick?
I know I was born and I know that I'll die. The in between is mine.
