Violent Femmes?

I listened to them as a young man, but it's been years.

Has anyone seen them in concert? I was thinking about buying tickets but wasn't sure if it was worth it or not.

Thought?

I saw them fairly early on in a seedy club in San Jose, CA.  The band was WAY late and it was close and hot in that venue.  After about an hour, I was pretty sure some heavy duty violence was going to break out any second.  It was really getting intense.  When the band finally came out, they dove right into some of those early numbers and the crowd got right into it.  Everything was steaming along find until Gordon Gano decided to back things way off and do one of his solo acoustic quasi-Christian songs, and the yelling and jeering started up in earnest and I feared for Gano's life. (Although I will say, to my ears, it was a beautiful number.)  But then the band cranked it up again and all ended well.  In retrospect, I really believe everything went down as intended.  I think those guys- Gano in particular- knew exactly how to work a crowd.  It was pretty insane.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

They are fun to see, even though they rest on the laurels of their debut album.

That's one hell of an album.  American Music was written 10 years later and thats a banger.
