Any recommendations on record players? I need to buy a new one. I wonder what brand Ed has.

I'm not sure about new ones....I would recommend checking out your local Goodwill/Salvation Army/flea market/thrift shop or maybe even a pawn shop for a good old one. The only problem with that is you should test it before you buy it, because otherwise you could end up paying for one that needs a new needle for example. You can usually find a pretty good deal if you're patient enough to look around. I know people that have gotten a record player with built in equalizer/cassette decks for less than $50 I think. And I think it included speakers too. Besides, vintage stuff is way cooler ;)
Someone handed me a picture and said, "This is a picture of me when I was younger." Every picture of you is when you were younger. "...Here's a picture of me when I'm older." Where'd you get that camera man?

  • So, if I'm buying a vintage/used turntable, what should I look for? What other stuff am I going to need to hook it up?

Depends on how vintage, but I think you would be fine with a stereo receiver or amplifier. Even though I have a couple of Technics, I wouldn't mind getting a vintage one myself. I love antiques.

    check out http://www.needledoctor.com

tons of brands to choose from. I have an automatic AT and a dual.

My next one will probably be some sort of USB version.

Technics are fantastic. You can't beat an SL 1200.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
  • I have a 30+-year old Technics. It's amazing.
  • Thanks guys! So, in order to have a complete turntable setup, what are all the parts/pieces/components/wires I'll need? I seriously need to educate myself ;)

I just want to play records, not convert to mp3 or anything elaborate.
