Definitely one of my all-time favorite novels. I just saw FX made a new television series. Has anybody started watching it yet?
My plan is to re-read the novel and then start the series. Has to be at least thirty years since I read it.

I read that book, along with a few of Clavell's other novels, including King Rat. The only things I remember are: One hand is for wiping, the other eating; and seppuku. Do you think it's the eating hand that does the latter? It should be the shit-wiping hand, if you ask me.
The first two episodes are lovely with beautiful language.Post edited by Spunkie onI was swimming in the Great Barrier Reef

Finally re-read the novel. I forgot what a great book it is. It was strange that I remembered so little of it even though I enjoyed it so much the first time. I guess with a novel that long, it's hard to remember much, especially after thirty years. When I was 500 pages in, I started watching the series, but I caught up in like two episodes, so I just waited until I finished the book before I watched the rest. What a great series. Obviously, things were condensed/omitted/changed, but overall, it really captured the essence of the novel.0
