Definitely one of my all-time favorite novels. I just saw FX made a new television series. Has anybody started watching it yet?

My plan is to re-read the novel and then start the series. Has to be at least thirty years since I read it.

I read that book, along with a few of Clavell's other novels, including King Rat. The only things I remember are: One hand is for wiping, the other eating; and seppuku. Do you think it's the eating hand that does the latter? It should be the shit-wiping hand, if you ask me.

The first two episodes are lovely with beautiful language.

Finally re-read the novel. I forgot what a great book it is. It was strange that I remembered so little of it even though I enjoyed it so much the first time. I guess with a novel that long, it's hard to remember much, especially after thirty years.

When I was 500 pages in, I started watching the series, but I caught up in like two episodes, so I just waited until I finished the book before I watched the rest. What a great series. Obviously, things were condensed/omitted/changed, but overall, it really captured the essence of the novel.

Kind of makes sense but then, would you want to take the chance of getting some nasty bacteria in your gut?  Noooo!

Been years since I read them but wanted to do the same.  Too many books in the pile I've yet to read....
    Cool that you did it
