Need your help in finding a guitar.

i am 16 and i have only ever had one guitar, a strat copy, its a pretty good guitar considering its a strat copy, anyway, i want to branch out and i was looking for a guitar which could have a nice and smooth distortion and be quite strat like in its tone, but also have the ability to play more heavier stuff if i needed to. I am kind of looking for a smashing pumpkins kind of tone. i don't know whether you are familiar with their live sound but they manage to get a nice powerful yet smooth distortion for some songs and yet they also go all out on some of the heavier songs and get a really heavy distortion. now i know they probably switch guitars for different songs but i can't afford to get more than one decent guitar. Anyway, if you could help i would be most grateful. also, suggest an amp that would deliver me these tones aswell if you can, any help will be greatly appreciated. :)
