First time going to MSG.  Anyone have any good recommendations for hotels in the area?

Prefer to stay in a nice area over a cheap place in a bad part of the city.

YMCA hostel is cheap and right across from Central Park. Was surprised with a stay there for Global Citizen (when my wife handled the accommodations  :s).

Virgin hotel is about a 5 min walk, Hard Rock 20min straight down 7th ave to MSG, about 15 mins the other way straight into Central Park. Rates can be high for both spots though, but worth keeping an eye out for a deal.
  • Stay in Rockville centre if u dont mind a train ride.

I would not stay on Long Island but you can really stay anywhere in Manhattan and it will be easy enough to get to MSG. Uptown if you want something quieter, downtown if you want more nightlife.

Agree on Long Island, it has some of the worst traffic in the area and the trains can be hit or miss. Another alternative outside the city would be White Plains or Tarrytown. They are right on the MTA train line and the ride is not bad, sometimes there is even a party on the train. I cannot speak to Jersey. NYC hotels are expensive, and if you go cheap it will not be great.

I stayed there in 22 and am staying there again this time. It’s directly across the street and worked great.

I’m from Long Island and I wouldn’t recommend staying there just because you’ll want to be in Manhattan. That said, taking the LIRR straight to Penn Station is always smooth as long you aren’t coming from the north or south shore.

Yes.  New Yorker is old and has small rooms but it is clean and tough to beat for convenience when going to MSG.  Stayed there lots of times when doing shows, games, or Javits over past 15 years
      It is fine.

Stayed at Hilton Garden Inn Times Square South for Billy Joel a few months ago.  3-4 blocks from MSG. Was a Friday night and spent about $250.00 for the night.   Great location.  Not much too the hotel but it's close and in a good area.

I was going to snarkily say “live in NYC”, but instead I’ll try to be helpful.

The nicest neighborhood to stay in that is also super easy by transit is probably the Upper West Side, although the hotels may be a little pricier. Anywhere on the west side of Manhattan (near the ACE or 1,2,3) subway lines are very convenient for getting to MSG.

For the 22' MSG show we stayed at the Hampton Inn about 2 blocks from MSG.  Nice hotel in a good area.

I’d recommend staying in Manhattan for sake of convenience and proximity to a million bars, restaurants, etc. If you want a lot of bars, nightlife, etc., I’d recommend staying either in midtown, union square, or Greenwich village. If you’re looking for something a little quieter, I’d recommend the upper west side. If the hotel prices in Manhattan are too expensive for you, you could save a few bucks by staying in a hotel in NJ in either jersey city or weekhawken. The downside is it’s not as convenient. Depending on where you are staying in jersey city, it’s about a 15-20 minute subway ride (via the PATH train) to midtown.

Yup. Been there many times. But it does get crowded after shows.
