Can somebody help me outta this? I sit down with a guitar to try and hammer out a new song, and I keep coming back to the some ol' normal progressions...

G, D, A, E...

E, A, C#, B...

I cannot break this cycle... I can come up with about a bajillion different ways to play those progressions, but I stagnate when it comes to playing anything else...

Any ideas?

capoing sometimes helps to find some new sounds.

switching to an entirely different instrument for a while does the trick too.
  • Do you know many chord variations. Try learning some augmented chords. Or just try and write songs in different tunings
Pearl Jam - London Astoria 20/4/06....One hell of a night :)

    Reading 2006 - WOOOOW!!!!!

    Paris 2006 - Fucking amazing

    Wembley 2007 :D

lay down the chords. the root notes.

throw aaway the chords on the guitar.

come up with sounds to layer over those progressions. fills, riffs, noise, etc...
