Question about spiritual/faith based songs

This going to be a bit of an odd question, because well, it's not
usually my cup of tea. However, my church is starting this, for lack of
a better word, "praise band", and I was asked to be in it and do quite a
bit of work with it. I've never been one to fond of organized religeon,
but you never know when it could come in handy in the future.

Do you know of or can think of any songs that could be taken as
spiritual or faith based? I'm kind of at a blank spot though.

I am going to lobby this group to do more songs geared towards
mainstream music that can be interpreted (my spelling is shite this
early in the morning)as spiritual.

Let me know what you think.

i gave myself to jesus..... but now he never calls.

go to thegearpage.net and sign up. it's a huge site but there are tons of folks involved in this whole "worship music" thing that would probably have lots of good input for what you're looking for.

Run as fast as you can my friend, but if you insist . . .
How about STING'S "if I ever lose my faith in you"
    or maybe some "CREED" tunes.

  • look into some ben harper tunes.
    "in the lord's arms"
    "amen omen"
    "two hands of a prayer"
    "forgiven"
    "picture of jesus"
or anything off the "there will be a light" album he did with the blind boys of alabama.

    then there are the classics:
Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum
Turn Turn Turn by The Birds

Good choices. I believe you could do quite a few U2 and Collective Soul songs, and some Live songs as well.

  • Speaking as a child of... the devil (:Dmy first name's Damien), it's not my cup o' tea either (not really the Antichrist, just a harmless atheist), but Johnny Cash has a wealth of religious songs. Most of them are saccharine and cringe-inducing, (and that's coming from a huge Cash fan) but there are a few gems. My particular favourite is Wayfaring Stranger, the last track on American III, which is also pretty easy to play
