  • "Riot Act is an exhausted, lonesome album. It is not defeatist, and never quite gives us. But t goes to dark and difficult places, and it does not fight as much as it endures."

Agree/Disagree? "I Am No Guide: Pearl Jam Song by Song" out 11/19.
  • "''Avocado' is a direct sonic and thematic response to Riot Act. Whereas Riot Act was a tentative album, cautious and richly textured, Pearl Jam is an explosive burst of sandpaper energy - and there is a lot it wants to scour away. "

Agree/Disagree?  Thoughts?   I Am No Guide is out  - 11/19

Just ordered this book in the UK.  Love you're album/song reviews when they come out so I know this'll be a good read. Keep up the good work

Thanks you!  Let us know what you think?
  • "At the climax Eddie brings "I Am Mine" back down into the gloom, but does so to prove we will survive in the face of our lost innocence. We will refuse to let the world break what is most human within us."

    Happy Birthday Riot Act!

... never quite gives up? I ordered it today from Amazon Germany. Surprised to find it already rated with only two stars...
  • it is out in the UK.  The first line of the review is ‘admittedly i havent read it…’.  they were hoping for a book of published lyrics, which this is not

    thank you for ordering it!
  • "For the first time, Pearl Jam celebrates life as much as they glorify struggle. We fight not simply because resistance imbues meaning, but because something precious needs defending. There is no narrative arc to Backspacer. It does not tell a story or work through an idea. Instead, it revels in the realization that you are blessed when you have something to give and something to lose."

Backspacer is an album where everyone was comfortable and not really into making music so the creative bug was not going for the flame anymore and went dormant.  Lightningbolt is where they found that spark and creative juices started to flow again.

    My thoughts.
  • People don't often highlight Lightning Bolt at that pivot point, but I do love that record. I think Backspacer is a less labored record. I do think it's creative, but it feels a little light and perhaps 'drafty'
  • "Lightning Bolt is a record about legacy, the relationship between past, present, and future, the challenge of renewal, and the fragility, insecurity, and drive that comes from having something, finally, to lose."

    thoughts?

I Am No Guide: Pearl Jam Song by Song - out 11/19

  • "Gigaton has faith in our collective agency, believes in the promise of the next generation to craft a better story for themselves, and the power of this one to write a better ending to its own."

Thoughts? "I Am No Guide" is out tomorrow, 11/19! #

  • We are on this week's episode of the State of Love and Trust podcast to talk about the book.  Check it out (and the podcast generally, which is great!)

We know that many of our American fans are getting notifications that Amazon is experiencing supply chain issues. We're SO sorry, but please hang in there with us as we sort this out. We're hoping to get our book into your hands before Christmas.  We really cannot wait for you to read this!

  • Quick update - supply chain issues are delaying the int'l shipping of I Am No Guide. Publisher (Fonthill Media) estimates 4-6 weeks with a more precise update in 1-2 weeks. We sincerely apologize and thank you for your patience. This is frustrating for us as well, but we hope and expect it will be worth the wait!

Amazon now says a Feb release. This should be coming out before then and will be updated with a more accurate time in 1-2 weeks. You can order directly through the publisher website for immediate shipping

Is the (one) review on Amazon correct?

"Admittedly I haven’t read the book yet, just opened it and flicked through. But really very surprised to find that each song passage doesn't include the actual lyrics they are taking about, so there is nothing to reference back to. I’ll now need to pull up the lyrics separately to study alongside the book to get the effect I wanted. Not sure how this didn’t occur to anyone during the whole publication process!! What a weird oversight!"
