I have the SE. Couldn’t bring myself to go for the AP there haha
What was the asking $ for the AP?

200 Kong's?  Will that drive the resale value down?
They're not selling 200 of them now.  They probably sold 180 of this run in 2010.  Whatever they're selling now is what they kept in their archives from the 200.

    Kong - $2500   wow
So what's the value of an SE then? ~$1k?

Bad news: I forgot about this sale.

Good news: I can afford to feed my family tonight.

Correct. A little pricy for a not-in-demand poster but the stated AP run was 50 and I can finally delete that eBay saved search...

Yeah, I picked one up in the mid 00s because I was new to posters at shows and completely unaware. I paid less way less than $300 for a show edition but the current eBay prices (just checked - 1k-1.5k) are absolutely bonkers for that show. Granted, it was their longest running show for  period of time but it's not an iconic poster by any stretch nor is it an iconic venue.

thanks for clarifying...I couldn't tell if that referenced this sale or was just the template from the initial sale...

I do not get the love for the Kong poster. It does not look hand drawn. I like the Newark Maskatron which people do not seem to like.

It’s the mid life crises PJ fans reliving their youth when we would play Donkey Kong! 😂 I dig the Newark one as well.. even bought one.. I was at the Albany show that they are selling but for 350$ and don’t need the life size edition 😂

For me, it combines two of my favorite things. I have the handle Chonky_Kong on other forums. The poster is pretty badass, the show was incredible, and it was the first poster I ever considered buying. I had regret all these years, especially with the value where it is. I bought one at a reduced price earlier this year because it is dry mounted. Still probably over paid, but at least my search is over.

Pretty sure one sold on the Bay in the last few months for $1000-$1200.  The market overall has taken a hit in the last 8-10 months which has allowed me to fill a few holes in the collection for a discounted price.

That Albany 06 show was one of the sleepers of that tour. Great show. Ugly poster though. I was a donkey kong kid when arcade games were a way we spent our time and met girls :) I am just not a fan of the poster, but I get the MSG hype.

This.  They aren’t reprinting posters.  They are selling leftovers from the original run of 200.  Its likely only a handful were available.

Now if they did a poster based on that football x and o roller ball game I might be down.  =)

10 days ago an SE sold on an eBay auction for $227.50. I'd consider that to be current market value. I'm thrilled to pay another ~$75 for an AP from the source. I was surprised to see there were only 50 APs. No wonder it was tough to track one down!

Those ebay listings are always inflated. Donkey Kong's are frequently listed at $3-$4k OBO. They are just hoping for someone to buy now. Recent bids went for $495 (badly folded) and $800 (dry mounted).

My guess is a decent amount and definitely more than 1996 and 1998.  There are also a ton more of these in great condition than the old prints.  Lots of the prints you see for sale from 96 and 98 have pin holes, fading, tears etc.  Back then it was something cool to put up on the wall without much thought about potential value.  By 2010 people were pretty clued in to the fact that quite a few of the posters were worth a bit of cash.  I think if they put this up at around $1750 someone would have bought it by now based on the fact that there are only 200 that are S/N.
Those late 90's posters were definitely much lower print runs than you see now.
Much fewer of those ones still around in "mint" condition.  I don't recall seeing poster tubes until ~2003 shows.  A lot of these ones were just rubber-banded at the show.  I don't recall early merch lines either for too many shows so you had to bring them in.  I remember going to a Camden show probably '98 where I went into the venue first to buy the poster.  Then passed it off to my body through the gate to run it back to the car to keep it safe during the show.

So which poster from this sale will be the last one to sell out?
  • BC62528BC62528 Posts: 222
At this point I would much rather prefer paying $75 for a reprint, instead of paying "Poor Man's Art Fees".  I think most of us just want a piece of nostalgia to remind us of a great show we attended in our youth to fill our man cave, versus the collectors/investment side of it.  Mark it as a reprint to avoid bad actors and reprint the top 20 most in-demand - I would think you could print 5,000 at $75 Kongs and make $375K - otherwise the way it is currently structured is just another version of ebay.  Give the fans what they want and the artist get to eat as well.
