Pearl Jam Yield at the Sphere 2024

I think it makes a lot of sense for the boys to do a 1 month+ residency there featuring that album.  Age, drawability, Bono connection, the visual effects fit with many songs on the Yield album...and Eddie was there taking in a U2 show last week...hopefully scouting it out.

i think you have to do multiple shows to make it worth it...lot of programing etc...i dont thinks its for them

Yah, I was wondering how much it cost U2 to make their digital videos/graphics for the entire concert.  That needs to take considerable time, effort and expense to create that.  It's not even a common aspect ratio, so they can't recycle old video or anything.

I agree with the above post.  You'd probably want to consider doing a lot of dates there to make it work, and I don't think PJ would do that.

I read the video is all CGI because due to size it cant even be recorded using modern equipment. Its the unreal engine.

I also cant see a band who tours with a chandelier of sticks playing the sphere, but id go!

    Please no.
  • I'd see PJ anywhere, but I'm not sure its a great fit. Everything has to be so choreographed, the setlist can't really change for production reasons. Do you want Mike's solo's to be on a timer? Do you want a cap on Ed's stories? The current logistics would be hard IMO.

They do have all the Gigaton footage though.

Its amazing. Check it out if you have a chance.

Not next tour, but as they age I think a residency at Climate Pledge in Seattle makes sense at some point. Of course I live here, so thats also the dream.
  • If I’m not mistaken Ed mentioned something at N1 in ATX about the Sphere and Bono (seriously thought for a second he might bring him out) and then mumbled something to the effect that he doesn’t think they (PJ) can play there…up to the task. Something like that. Personally I can’t see them in that venue. But I’d be interested to see what they could do if they chose to give it a whirl.

250 foot massive screen next to and surrounding six foot tall performers? Stadium intimacy with an arena sized crowd? Just does not have the feel whatsoever of a rock concert.

Any show at the Sphere is a multi-media spectacular that happens to have a live band.

This is something U2 has been doing and aspiring to for 30+ years.

    Not for PJ

U2 was built for the Sphere.  Their shows are like Broadway productions and I mean that in a positive sense.  Doesn’t really seem to be the Pearl Jam way.

There was a real focus on the band's color, art & aesthetic from this era at the MoPop exhibit, and I could see it being writ large on a grander scale with the right artists & digital crafters.

And Ten is the casual fan's favorite album (i.e. draw), so if they could get over performing it 20-24 times in a row for the first set, and a smattering of hits & rarities for the 2nd set (11 songs for Ten, another 11, then 2-3 for encore)... well, anything's possible ;)

You're not wrong. We do all live in a bit of a bubble in our fandom.

BUT, if they did 10 shows of Ten, plus a 2nd set with encores, there are PJ fans who would go to multiple (if not all 10) shows.

Also, kind of a longshot, but Ed's album went to #1, produced by Watt.

If there's a single or 3 on UNTITLED (I'm talking Better Man, Daughter, Small Town or Last Kiss, which were all played on pop radio), then they'd bring a mix of old & new fans to a residency like this.

    P.S. Tiered pricing, of course😅

  • Maybe it’s not for PJ but that’s why it’s so damn intriguing. Binaural images would be insane on unreal engine. I could see them doing 3 nights there to make it worth it for the visual project they would have to do. Let’s say PJ35? Otherwise I think it would be part of a mini-stadium run.

None of those songs was in this century. Have you listened to pop radio in the last ten years? Pearl Jam has no shot of getting played on pop radio unless they ditch the guitars and have Ice Spice rap a guest verse on the single.

From the footage I’ve seen, U2 at the sphere looks like an incredible production and experience. But I don’t think it would work for PJ, at least not with the current format of the shows. U2 puts on a great live show IMO, but it’s a very different experience from PJ, even prior to their sphere residency. U2 is a much more choreographed production than a PJ show, with lots of screen, visuals, lights, etc. The elaborate visuals have always been an integral part of U2’s shows. By contrast, a PJ show is a stripped down rock show with minimal visuals and effects. The focus has always been on the playing itself. The reason why many of us go to multiple shows is because of the variety and unpredictability- you never know what might get played on any given night. No two shows are the same; indeed, no two version of the same song are even the same. This type of format would not work with the highly choreographed structure of a sphere residency. I couldn’t envision PJ shows being more about the visuals than the band on stage. So while it’s a cool idea, I don’t see it happening. Now a residency at climate pledge where the band plays each of their albums cover to cover? That I could see happening one day (and would go in a heartbeat).

Yah, I guess whoever pays for it, the band, or the venue, they're going to need a commitment for a bunch of dates to make the economics work out.

I'm totally having FOMO.  I thought I was done with Vegas, but damn the U2 Sphere shows sound cool.   I heard rumours they might add more dates next year.

It might be cool, but I would not want it at the expense of real shows. The whole production is the opposite of what makes their shows so special.
  • New Jan/Feb dates just announced - I read the band is guaranteed $4mm per show - not a bad gig if you can get it
