I couldn’t get the article to load. But I’ve seen bits and pieces about the trouble artists are having with this situation. Especially the little guys.
But are we really surprised venues are doing this? Fans have been getting every nickel squeezed out of them when it comes to concerts for a long time. Inflated/dynamic priced tickets, services fees, parking fees at venues, overpriced concessions and merchandise. At our local amphitheater they used to let you bring a chair for the lawn. Then they banned chairs and said you can rent one for $5. This year they raised the chair rental to $20 - which means I paid $80 to rent 4 chairs for my wife and I and two oldest kids to see Dave Matthews Band on the lawn. On top of the tickets I already purchased.
So I while I feel bad for these guys, I just don’t get the outcry now that the tables have been turned on the artists. People have been getting nickeled and dimed for a long time - it’s just a new group feeling the pain.
