Today I’m a drag racing fan, here to cheer for my son

His first season as a driver is almost done

I’m out out here in the hot sun

Ice water…floppy hat…check, check

The metal stands are nearly full of people withstanding the heat

Today is more crowded than other race days

He rebuilt and improved his car and now it’s very fast

The team tweaking its performance at each event

shaving off fractions of seconds for the 1/4 mile and upping the mph

He comes alive when he does what he loves

And I can see he’s in his own zone

I recognize that this is his path

People ASK:

Aren’t you afraid for him?

No.

Maybe I lack a negative imagination?

I don’t know

Mainly, I’m grateful he still wants me around!
