The Smile Philly 7/8

Any fellow Jammers going to the smile show this Saturday (7/8) in Philly? I know the venue is called something else now, but it’ll always be the electric factory to me.

Ahhhh year that’s right- Franklin music hall. Forgot what it was called these days. Looks like you can get resale tickets for about $90 now on AXS. I’m guessing it’ll be cheaper though if you wait until the day of the show.

I was there a few weeks ago to see Idles. Yeah I saw, $90 was a little out of my price range.

Any idea what time I have to line up to get a good spot close to the stage? I don’t need rail, but I’m looking to get as close as possible. Mid afternoon? Late afternoon? An hour before the show?

NY is Forrest Hills I think - much larger venue.

Last weekend my wife and I were in Asheville for a quick getaway and caught The Smile's show there. The venue's A/C and ventilation were on the fritz so it was muggy w/ cannibus smoke clinging to the ceiling like a low hanging cloud. To compensate, the venue handed out free water and handheld paper fans. It all oddly heightened the experience. We were in the side balcony and, scanning the crowd, the waving fans looked like a rhythmic dance rippling thru the audience. Fantastic show featuring lots of new material.

Forest hills stadium fits about 13,000, but Franklin music hall fits only about 2,500. I’m guessing the much smaller size accounts for the difference. But I still think that if you wait until close to showtime to buy a ticket, you’ll probably be able to snag one for about $60.

Wow, sounds like quite the experience! I’m really looking forward to seeing them tomorrow and hearing the new material.

I was at the Richmond show as well, which was a small venue like Philly. The show was incredible, even better than the show I saw in DC last year. This band is on fire and anyone who gives any little bit of a shit about Radiohead should see them. If you are waffling because of the price, trust me when I tell you it will be worth it to see these guys in a small venue while you still can. Either they go back to Radiohead or The Smile becomes more popular. Either way, shows in 1500 seat venues like The National aren't gonna be frequent going forward.

In Richmond, my friend arrived an hour before doors, I met her a bit later. We were directly in front of Thom, 4 "rows" of people back. A fucking great spot. But we also could have gotten essentially the same spot if we rolled up right at doors. But don't show up later than that, by 30 minutes post doors, the floor was full

damn, that's a lot of people. I never been to the Forest Hills venue Guess the seated areas are the "cheaper" seats. Not sure how much the GA/pit seats were going for there.

Well that show was amazing. They’re an incredible band! Feel so fortunate to have seen them in such an intimate venue. I doubt they’ll be playing small theaters for long.

The show was really good. I've listened to the album a few times and I like it, but still a lot of songs I didn't recognize. But it's the Yorke/Greenwood stuff - it's just good. Super packed - I can't believe they were allowed to sell that many tickets. Whatever AC they had wasn't even close to keeping up. It's an experience.

Yeah it was hot as hell in there. I was sweating so much I looked like I had jumped in a pool by the end. I lined up early and was a row behind the rail right in between Thom and Johnny. It was packed tight up there but was worth it- it was amazing getting to see them from 10 feet away.

La Signora found a nice spot in the 21+ area where we weren't crowded too badly. Not close but whatever.

It was just nice seeing Thom and Johnny in a small venue. I’ve seen Radiohead a number of times but always in large arenas like MSG, so this was a totally different experience. I’m looking forward to hearing the Smile’s forthcoming new album.
