and...
might be a stupid question, can i ..at a later date, when i have more money...end up changing the finish, paint job on the cherry one to a wine red?0 -
get this 62strat...sam ash music here in indy was selling a wine red sg special for $599 new before tax last weekend. they actually had a couple of them. i was so tempted to get one but passed it up. kinda wish i'd gotten it. doh!
i like the wine red better myself.my life...you electrify my life. let's conspire to reignite...all the souls that would die just feel alive.0 -
awesome. im searching for on EBay....i like te wine red myself as well, its just the cherry is 200 bucks cheaper....
so that makes it much more tempting....0 -
Cherry is the classic SG color but wine red is very nice as well. I have a wine red SG studio from the late 80's.My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0
-
ya i really cant decide which one i like. i looked for past auctions on the wine red and have constacted a few sellers whos didnt sell, so we will see what pans out. i really wnt this guitar. but i still cant decide which one i like better, originally i wanted the wine red, but now the cherry is growing on me...probably because its 200 cheaper....and i guess i always thought the wine red was the classic SG color.0
-
well wine red is a classic often discontinued Gibson Color but the older color is heritage cherry.
Look up a 61 RI or the Pete Townsend SG at http://www.gibson.com for a good representation of heritage cherry. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
so what would you do?
755 (after shiupping) cherry over the wood grain
or 905 (After taxes) for a wine red...
the same exact guitar...

specifically this one, i guess im taking a gamble putting this on here eh? well its buy now, and i want to buy now..today...what do you think of this guitar?0 -
Man, I like wine red, but man that cherry looks great. For 200 less that cherry looks fantastic. It's a tough choice but 200 bucks is a big difference for a color. I'd go with the cherry hopefully it's exactly as he described. If so I think it is a good deal. It'd be nice to get one of those gibson California Girl Cases for it. (Brown on the outside satin pink on the inside) or you could just go for basic black. I'd definately buy a good case for it.
That guitar looks awesome. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
ooo ya i love those cases. ithink im gonna have to wait for the next paycheck to get a case for the big guy
i think 200 bucks is quite a bit, i dont see mysef ever regretting getting a nice guitar like that....how could i?
not my top choice, but at least that cherry finish is over the wood grain? looks like it to me, what do you think?0 -
well, in my experience it's better to go with what you want I guess but for 200 less you can get a case next paycheck no problem and some DR tite fit 10 or 11's to make it perfect.
You won't regret it at that price I would think anyhow. I'd think it would grow on you. I think that the grain is showing yes. It'll wear nice too. The next time you gig just have everyone blow smoke on it. I think it's a good thick crunch compliment to your Strat. It's funny we have almost the same taste in guitars. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
ya its wood grain for sure. i jsut dont want to rush the purchase, its not like i wont be able to fin danother one down the road but...
im sur ei wont regret it, because when it comes down to it...its an sg..and its gonna be sweet, no matter what. ...0 -
ok, i think the one here im looking at is actually "heritage cherry"
little in between the cherry and wine....
i like it.0 -
yeah cherry is heritage cherry.
the other red of that era is a non translucent Ferrari Red.
It's cool man. You won't regret it.My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
ok ok, i went ahead and got th wine red sg special, 849$ at zzounds.com
now i just have to change my limit on my debit card then they can run it through.
i decided that, orginally this is what i wanted, and i found a happy medium price, no taxes, free shipping. im really excited. The heritage cherry isnt as classic as the wine red, so thats whatwould have been cool about it. but now im getting a new guitar, that i can make my ownand boy is it gonna be sweet!

one of my best friends bought that exact one. It's a fantastic guitar. I think you'll be pleased. A great looking and sounding compliment to your Strat.
next paycheck swapping the tuners. http://www.stewmac.comMy Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
ya im really excited. i had the epi les paul, time to move on to better things. im really pleased. cant wait to get it thats for sure. it felt great int he store. looks great. sounds great. I have a feeling, FEELING, that i will like an SG better than a les paul. Les pauls have too much a metal feel to me, alot ive played...can easily be very muddy. hell i dont know. im excited.
what tuners do you suggest?0 -
I'd recommend Grovers or Sperzels. Preferebly locking.
Townsend (and pretty much everyone else use grovers)My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
im really excited for this guitar, but i need to get a hardcase first. i wont be gigging untill summer time...so i suppose that can wait....i really just want to get this thing through my setup...raelly bad.0
