Besides Pearl Jam, Bruce is the only act I will see multiple times per tour.  I’m grateful Pearl Jam is keeping the majority of seats below market rate even if the prices are creeping up each tour.  But so is everything else in life.  I just took our dog to the groomer yesterday and paid $128 for a bath and a haircut for her that only cost $85 a couple years ago.

The overlooked point about the Springsteen dynamic pricing is that if he didn’t price some of those seats at $5k, they would have been snapped up by scalpers and would be on the secondary market for the same price.  Fans see those seats for sale and they assume that they would have been available for $150 if it wasn’t for dynamic pricing.  They don’t realize those seats would have been long gone by the time they got through the ticket queue if they were $150.  The article makes a good point that the majority of tickets were reasonably priced for the current market.  I got really good 2nd level seats for Bruce for the spring tour for $99.  I also paid up and got $300 3rd row seats (behind GA) on the field for Camden Yards this fall.  So all in I’m at $200 per ticket on average for good to really great seats for 2 shows.  I would love it to be cheaper but it could be a lot more expensive if I was seeing some other bands.

Kidding aside, @on2legs has a point. Good Metallica tickets are a pretty penny, as are most acts that PJ could be considered peers with.

But there are variables at each venue, in each city. I was able to get Club Level Bruce tix for face a few days before the show, and unloaded my original pair for more.than what I paid (but still a fair price). However, I was 100% willing to take a loss.

At the very least, if PJ Premium is sticking around, buyers SHOULD be allowed to sell them at a loss if they're unable to unload them otherwise.

100%. That policy is really anti-consumer.  Both for the seller and the potential buyer who would benefit from buying discounted seats.

Is this not the same as dynamic hotel pricing?  Rooms with a view = more expensive. Rooms skyrocket after a show announcement, noblesville for example. I got wyndham $115 during the rumors. After the announcement it was $400.

I dont yet see mcd’s charging more during peak times but could happen.

Exactly the same.  But fans have a way more personal relationship with Pearl Jam than they do with Wyndham.  So people feel betrayed.

I'm still amazed they opted to brand it PJ Premium rather than just go with Platinum.

Completely agree. I’d be willing to take a small loss most of the time on selling if it meant I didn’t completely lose out on my money

They probably wanted to distance themselves from the Official Platinum/Dynamic Pricing that has been getting a lot of attention lately. They were also more up front about it than pretty much any bands are. At least in the 10C announcements it was spelled out that it would be an option and less than 10% of all tickets will be PJ Premium. So trying to avoid what Bruce ran into where nothing was said ahead of time and all of a sudden the tickets that were left after a short time of on sale were all the high priced ones.

Won't happen. Locking a seller in makes it easier for TM to undercut that seller.

I've had them do that on regular concert tickets other than pearl jam that I've had to let go.  They automatically adjust their ticket prices to be the lowest price ticket.  It's really frustrating when you're just trying to offload tickets before a show.  I've started moving my tickets to stubhub to sell because over there you're just competing against other sellers and not a giant conglomerate who does everything it can to make sure you eat your tickets.

The big difference here is the majority of tickets are sold significantly below fair market value thru the fan club.

Front of house seats with the same cost as rafters? This puts significant pressure on the dynamic pricing model.

It also leaves fans without club membership nor seniority in an extremely vulnerable position. Moreso than fans of bands that have a more reasonable pricing structure and more quality seats available for public purchase

If you don't want to pay high prices for a concert, don't and do not attend!  If you don't give a shit, pay and attend!

Those are the choices we have to make, and they do not involve guns or crayons.

I hate the higher prices, but they are still a STEAL for our seats to a HOF band.  Just don't buy an overpriced t-shirt and poster to compensate.

Not entirely true, they also had a limited amount of “Charity tickets” that were dynamically priced, but the added amount allegedly went to various charities in that local market. I’m sure TM took some kind of a cut of that though.

Pearl Jam is leaving millions of dollars on the table for fans and the fan club to get tickets. That’s just a fact. I just checked out blink-182 tickets in Sacramento literally going for $1000 a ticket for good seats $100 for the worst seat in the house so yes Pearl Jam does charge the same price for all tickets in the house for the most part  the only difference would be is that the cheapest seat in the house would still be 160 bucks but every other seat would be for 500 bucks like I said if they wanted to and used Maxximum pricing and say went back to only giving out 10% of the tickets to 10 club members and everybody else would be shut out. They are leaving millions of dollars on the table. We should be extremely grateful for what they do.

Based on a review of everything we know about the ticketing industry (which is not much), the polls here regarding people getting the tix they wanted (wholly or partially), and my own experience relative to prior tours and this time, I believe you are probably right.
