My back. I've had back issues for a few years, but they got much worse last summer when I had severely painful spasms & collapsed at the office. It turns out I have degenerative disc disorder (runs in my family). I've had a couple of procedures RFBlock, RFAbalation....and was doing quite a bit better after PT and diet change. Out of nowhere, I aggravated the injury a little over a week ago (not as severely, though...thank god) by lifting an empty laundry basket. Yes, empty. Really hard with a newborn at home.

Now, I'm scheduled to get some fun steroid injections in June. My homerun totals should go up as well...nice bonus! ;)

Not fun, but it could be a lot worse. Making additional diet & exercise changes as well.

I had a fucking blood clot that put me in the ER about a month ago. Luckily they said it was pretty low risk.

My leg was swollen and sore when I went home. My wife looked at it and said we needed to get to the ER. The clot was in my calf and a piece went to my lung. Deep vein thrombosis resulting in a pulmonary embolism.

SOunds nasty but the ER doc said the scan reflected it as being "low risk" so they sent me home and prescribed Eloquis for me.

Come to find out that Eloquis is like $600/month but I was given a few coupons that drop that to $10.

I won't complain about my medical care but our system is fucked up. The amount of time I have had to spend fighting with the pharmacy and dealing with billing is ridiculous.

The ER bill was actually about half of what I expected. Total was about $7K then my insurance discount took it down to roughly $1500 out of pocket. Of course I pay about $1,200/month for insurance.

I had some fucked up health issues over the past year

    Ulcer in my esophagus

Melanoma on my arm - it was removed and hasn't spread

Type 2 Diabetes, which is reversible with proper diet and meds

I've got spinal fluid in my cranium, causing pressure on my brain (horrible headaches and other symptoms mirroring a brain tumor), and damage to my optic nerves (fucked up vision anomalies and grey-outs), with the main danger being permanent blindness. Pseudotumor Cerebri Syndrome - a subtype of IIH that in my case is random bad luck. 1 in 100,000 chance of having the kind I have. I'm dealing with it though, with regular hospital visits and I have a truly great specialist - I'll be fine with medication and monitoring, and the chances of it eventually going away completely are extremely high. I think by the end of summer I'll likely be able to say I'm all better.

Detailed accounting must be CPA…many like to say our healthcare system is better than the socialized systems because of waiting times, but im with you, ours is more complex, can be dangerous to our financial well being, and at times VERY slow (as I await MRI approval, because of course a doctor’s prescription is not good enough for health insurance)

…a few years ago I was in my early 50s feeling wonderful, then this year happened. Started off with eyesight floater, which really freaked me out a first, but now it’s nothing because something happened to my knee. Bad pain in March for about a week and now generally  unstable but happy to have only slight discomfort (never need ice or NSAID). Six weeks at PT building back strength, but still need my PJ cane to walk (only reason I had one was to be able to stand four hours straight in GA at a PJ show).  X-rays inconclusive, more tests upcoming

bummer topic on a PJ forum, to me the average age of fan here definitely younger than me and the band…

This totally blows my mind. I can't believe you pay that much per MONTH!! And then still owe money!?! Your system is complete and total insanity. It's amazing AmericanS have let it go on for so long.
My best friend had this exact thing happen to her years back, I think when she was in her late 20s. Scary situation for sure!!

Holy crap this is pretty bad!  Certainly nothing to mess around with.  Then the medical and scrip costs are totally out of control.  I’m so sorry you’re going through this.  I mean I feel bad for everyone suffering with serious medical ailments and costs. I have unbelievable medical and prescription because we were in unions and when I hear stuff like this I just feel awful about how lucky I am.
    Please take care!
